Laura J’s review of Nothing Stays In Vegas by Moira McTark
Contemporary Erotic Romance ebook released by Samhain 18 March 08
While preparing for her sister’s upcoming wedding, Lara spends the few weeks prior to the wedding emailing the best man coordinating wedding details. These emails have become more personal over time and Lara feels very attracted to the man on the other end. Finally, Lara gets her chance to meet Cal, but before introductions can be made, Lara’s sister Dette, informs Lara that while on “break” from her fiance she slept with Cal in Las Vegas not knowing that he was her fiance’s best man. Because Lara and Dette look so much a like, and real names were not used, Dette begs Lara to be the woman that Cal was with in Vegas. While Lara wants to be honest, she knows Dette deserves happiness and agrees to help her. But as she gets to know Cal better, Lara has to decide between her happiness and her sister’s.
I love when a story catches me and I can’t put the book down, and this one was hard to put down. I liked Lara and felt bad when her manipulative sister puts her in a very bad situation. I was happy to see her grow and realize that her own happiness mattered too.
Cal was the perfect “hero” for Lara by helping her find out that her happiness was important just as much as her sister’s. In the beginning, Cal does his best to stay away from Lara, believing she was Dette and someone he would rather forget. But as he spends time with her he was able to see the woman he was talking to online, the one that he was falling for before even meeting her. I loved watching their interactions with each other.
Her sister Dette, was a jealous, manipulative person and I wanted to hate her from the beginning, but as the story went on I actually felt somewhat sorry for her, even though I still didn’t like or trust her. When I thought I had her sister Dette figured out, I was surprised by what actually happened.
Ms McTark has written an erotic, sensual and at times emotional story with well written characters. I definitely recommend you add this to your “to be read” booklist.

Will one night in Sin City equal a lifetime of regret?
On his way to be best man at his friend’s wedding, Caleb Daniels has high hopes that his run of bad relationships has come to an end. He can’t wait to lay eyes—and hands—on the funny and intelligent maid of honor. They’ve never met, but she’s been charming him for weeks over the internet.
At first Lara Sinclair’s cyberspace chats with Cal centered around the preparations for her sister’s extravagant wedding, but it quickly blossomed into an intense online affair. Now she’s more than ready to meet him face to face, and have his fingers stroke more than just the keyboard.
But before she can even say hello to the sexy groomsman, her trouble-come-hither, look-alike sister bursts her bubble with a bona-fide, happily-every-after emergency. And Lara finds herself faced with a heartbreaking choice.
Let her sister solve her own problems, or risk her budding relationship with Cal to help save the wedding—by pretending to be someone she’s not.

When I first read the blurb and your review Laura, I admit it sounded kind of interesting. But then I thought about it and remembered that this is why I don’t read straight contemps. As interesting and tempting as the story sounds, I just KNOW I’d be pissed off at the whole lot of ’em.
I just can’t read most contemps without thinking that the whole thing could easily be settled with a much needed clue x 4.
In this case, the first whack needs to be delivered to Dette (for more than one reason) with Lara getting the second (and probably a couple more to whack some sense into her). Caleb gets the third because he doesn’t know the difference between the two sisters. And Dette’s fiance gets the final “what were you THINKING!” whack!
