Contemporary paranormal romance eBook novella released by Samhain Publishing 13 May 08

I like paranormal romances but I prefer that they are on the lighter side.  I love Mary Janice Davidson and Kimberly Raye’s vampires and even though Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampires are a little darker and more suspenseful, I still find the humor and mystery outweighs the suspense you find in most paranormals.  This book was definitely for book for those who are like me, the ones who want sexy vampire heroes, some good vampire loving and a good storyline to go along with that.

Review: Stay With Me by Maya Banks

May 11, 2008

Stay With Me by Maya BanksLimecello’s review of Stay With Me by Maya Banks
Contemporary erotic romance released by Samhain Publishing 6 May 08

Maybe it’s my mood, or my brain has melted, but this book just didn’t do it for me. I’m one of those readers that always wants more, more, more emotion. I wouldn’t mind if 90% of a book was just the characters developing their relationship. In fact, I prefer it. It’s why I read romance. I don’t need a sub-plot, no thriller or mystery, precocious child or serial killer. (Yes, an interesting list there.) While this book is all about Catherine’s angst and her relationship with her husbands - it didn’t grip me. The first 21 pages just said the same thing. A lot. Catherine is sad. She’s pregnant. She’s lonely.

Review: Eyes of Fire by C.J. England

Eyes of Fire by C.J. EnglandShannon C.’s review of Eyes of Fire (Mylari Chronicles, Book 1) by C.J. England
Fantasy romance eBook released by Samhain Publishing 2 May 08

I love a good fantasy romance. And I have mentioned elsewhere that I like the trope of chick from our world wanders into fairyland. So I was fully expecting to enjoy the first book in the Mylari series. Unfortunately, while the external plot was interesting enough to me that I am almost tempted to follow this series, the romance left me really cold.

Review: Life on the Move by Megan Reilly

May 8, 2008

Life on the Move by Megan ReillyShannon C.’s review of Life on the Move by Megan Reilly
Contemporary young adult fiction released by Samhain 29 Apr 07

I love it when a book packs the kind of emotional wallop that leaves me sitting in my chair well after I’m done, stunned into speechlessness. When that book is only about 150 pages long, I consider that amazing. A quick word of warning–this is a young adult novel, and it’s not an easy story to read, so people expecting a traditional HEA will be disappointed, but if that doesn’t matter so much to you, this is definitely worth a try.

Review: Take a Stranger No More by Beth Kery

May 2, 2008

Take a Stranger No More by Beth KeryShannon C.’s review of Take a Stranger No More by Beth Kery
Historical erotic romance eBook published by Samhain 29 Apr 08

My fellow duckie, Sandy M., has raved about Beth Kery, so when her latest came up for review, I used my mad ninja powers of sneakiness to request it before she could. The premise looked interesting in a this-could-only-happen-in-erotic-romance kind of way, and even though it’s short, I figured it would be a nice change. Unfortunately, I can’t review this book without spoiling a couple of things, so if you really want to read this book and don’t want to be spoiled, go read something else.

She Blinded Me With Science...Fiction (Vegas Ventures, Book 1) by Kally Jo SurbeckLaura J’s review of She Blinded Me With Science Fiction (Vegas Ventures, Book 1) by Kally Jo Surbeck
Contemporary Romantic Comedy released by Samhain Publishing 4 Apr 08

I love romantic comedies. It’s what I want to read. So I decided to read this one thinking, based on the blurb, that it would be pretty funny. I’ve heard about Trekkie Conventions and know that these people take their roll playing seriously and after reading this book I thought Ms. Surbeck’s research for this book must have been interesting.
