Coltrain's Proposal by Diana Palmer Limecello's review of Coltrain's Proposal by Diana Palmer
Contemporary romance published by Silhouette 1 Aug 95

I recently acquired this book as part of a birthday trade, and I couldn’t be happier. I think I’ve made it clear that I enjoy Diana Palmer’s novels – there’s just something about them. The characters are fun and witty, the plots obvious yet interesting, and the books are simply addicting. I think I’ve read 110 of Ms. Palmer’s novels, and this is one of my favorites. Read more

Review: Bound by the Kincaid Baby by Emilie Rose

July 19, 2008

book cover Limecello's review of Bound by the Kincaid Baby by Emilie Rose
Contemporary romance published by Silhouette Desire 1 Jul 08

This is the second book in the Payback Affairs series. I think that Ms. Rose's trilogies are perfect. Just enough to keep you satisfied - but not so much that you're wondering when will it end? The premise for this book was laid out in the first (although it didn't detract from that book at all) - and I was eager to read it. Bound by the Kincaid Baby is also interesting, because time-wise, it takes place concurrently with Shattered by the CEO. Read more

Review: Fiddler on the Woof by Blayne Edwards

July 18, 2008

Book CoverShannon C.'s review of Fiddler on the Woof by Blayne Edwards
Paranormal erotic romance ebook released by Ellora's Cave 10 Jun 08

When this book came up for review, my initial reaction was an undignified snort of laughter and an email to Duckie Central begging someone to review it. I got a response back from Devon that said, rather pointedly, "Well, yes, *someone* should." And so, since as I write this, I am out of town working a summer job that involves behaving in front of children, I decided I needed smut in my life. So I took the plunge and read this book. Review: Playing with Fire by Katie MacAlister

July 18, 2008

book coverDevon's Review of Playing with Fire (Silver Dragons, Book 1) by Katie MacAlister
Paranormal Romance released by Signet 6 May 2008

Katie MacAlister's books are a mixed bag for me. I haven't enjoyed her contemporaries, but I quite liked several of her paranormals. I enjoy her sense of humor, but after awhile the books in the ongoing series start to suffer from a certain sameness and forced hijinks. Holy Smokes, the fourth book in the Aisling Grey series (see my review, and please excuse the formatting issues), definitely felt like an ending. There were a number of loose ends and so, despite my disenchantment with the series, I was sufficiently intrigued to pick up Playing with Fire. This book features Gabriel Tauhou, the wyvern of the silver dragons and an appealing character in the Aisling Grey books. Read more

Review: Rogue by Danielle Steel

July 18, 2008

book coverSybil's review of Rogue by Danielle Steel
Fiction hardcover release from Delacourt Press 24 Jun 08

Rogue is not a romance novel but one has to give kudos to whoever it was that made that poll because no way would it or this book have gotten as much attention from the romance blogland without pulling our strings and watching us get puffy. The joke is Danielle Steel is a 'guilty pleasure' read or a 'beach read' or whatever stupid sayings they dust off every June. I have loved me some trashy fiction and more smutty reads than I can remember, sadly this isn't even that. I would say it was something close to Reality TV only it isn't that deep. Read more

Review: Hard as Nails by HelenKay Dimon

July 17, 2008

Hard as Nails by HelenKay Dimon Limecello's review of Hard as Nails by HelenKay Dimon
Contemporary anthology published by Brava on 1 Jul 08

I first discovered HelenKay Dimon in the anthology When Good Things Happen to Bad Boys, with her story Hardhats and Silk Stockings. I really enjoyed it, and was so excited to find out that she had a continuation of sorts on the story coming out. Actually, I didn't know this was an anthology at first, but this format is perfect. Review: Hotter Than Hell (13 Author Anthology)

July 17, 2008

Book CoverLiviania's review of Hotter Than Hell by Tanya Huff, Marjorie M. Liu, Cheyenne McCray, L.A. Banks, Susan Krinard, Keri Arthur, Heidi Betts, Lilith Saintcrow, Susan Sizemore, Denise Little, Carrie Vaughn, Linda Winstead Jones, and Kim Harrison
Urban fantasy/paranormal romance anthology released by Harper 24 June 08

With Hotter than Hell, HarperCollins goes in a somewhat different direction from their previous Hell anthologies. These are erotic short stories rather than novellas. It's worth picking up if you're very fond of one of the authors or wish to experience several of the authors' work before buying their series. While all of the stories are well-written and none are truly awful, many of the stories are forgettable or unsatisfying. Read more

July 16, 2008

book cover Limecello's review of Hot Nights, Dark Desires by Eden Bradley, Sydney Croft, and Stephanie Tyler
Contemporary anthology published by Bantam on 20 May 08

This anthology is hot, sexy, and has an edge, which meshes with its setting - New Orleans. The characters are all interesting and layered, and I enjoyed my introduction to two of the authors. Read more

REVIEW: Sleep Softly by Gwen Hunter

July 16, 2008

Sleep Softly Wendy the Super Librarian's review of Sleep Softly by Gwen Hunter
Romantic suspense released by Mira 01 February 2008

When my older sister was pregnant with my nephew she went through a phase where she couldn't read about "anything bad happening to children." This coming from a woman who used to read early Stephen King horror novels in my parents' basement, in the middle of the night. Even factoring in her pregnancy hormones, I suspect this is what will keep a lot of readers away from Gwen Hunter's latest, despite the fact that it's not a terribly gory read. Sometimes the mere suggestion and an active imagination are too much to overcome.
