Laura J’s review of Seeing Me by Elyssa Edwards
Contemporary Erotic Romance eBook released by Ellora’s Cave 28 Mar 08
Newly published author C.J. Ellison, aka Cara Jo Ellison, is excited to have been asked to sit on a writer’s panel at science fiction-fantasy convention. She had only been an attendee at the same event two years prior and now she had her first published book and was sitting among other writers and Him, a famous actor who has appeared in movies that were based on another author’s books, also sitting on the panel.
While most of the focus is on Him and the others in the panel, C.J. begins doodling and fantasizing about the Him. Soon after something is said by another author, C.J. jumps in and offends the author. By doing so she draws the attention of Him. Later, the actor and C.J. share a brief encounter and then part ways. When a mysterious invitation to a private signing is offered, C.J finds herself in a luxurious suite with none other than Him.
I wasn’t sure when I began reading this story if I was going to like it or not. “Him” is never given a name, which at first was I thought was a little strange. I have never read a book in which the hero didn’t have a name and I wasn’t sure how this would affect the story. But as I read, I found that I rather enjoyed how Ms. Edwards allowed me, the reader, to pick my own “hero” to imagine.
The chemistry between C.J. and “Him” is sensual and hot, but I also enjoyed watching the love story between the hero and heroine unfold. There are two very hot “fantasy” scenes where C.J. imagines both her and the hero in the scene. At first I wasn’t sure if they would impede the flow of the story, but they didn’t. In fact, they added to the story, especially since the heroine of the story is an author. Both characters were well written and the story flowed well and kept you interested. I didn’t want to put the book down.
Grade: B
More than one of Cara “C.J.” Ellison’s dreams have come true. She’s just gotten her first book published and been invited to participate in Southeast’s largest science fiction-fantasy convention on a panel with Him. He is the actor who unfailingly brings box-office gold and stirs the fantasies of millions of women, Cara included. When Cara’s tendency to speak first and regret it later takes over, she finds herself the center of not only the crowd’s attention but His as well. Now that she has earned His attention, it seems that perhaps her fantasies are coming true as well.
