Sandy M’s review of Reason Enough by Megan Hart
Contemporary Romance eBook released by Harlequin Spice Brief 1 Jun 08
I wondered if I’d like this novelette when I realized it was a follow-up to Dirty, the story of Dan and Elle, which I have not read. I also wondered if the fact it’s a Brief would limit the story in any way, which sometimes happens with short stories. It didn’t at all. Ms. Hart does a very good job of letting a new reader know what’s in Elle’s and Dan’s pasts and of giving you the emotion necessary for dealing with a sometimes touchy subject.
Elle’s family life growing up was not made of happy things, thus her reason for hesitating when Dan brings up the question of starting a family. Her brother, Chad, is now happy with his significant other, Luke, and they have a young daughter, Leah. The first reason Elle now entertains the idea of getting pregnant since Dan’s query of her. But Elle and Chad’s mother is a negative reason for not bringing children into the world, especially when mom can’t seem to get over the ethnicity of Chad’s little girl. I enjoyed the change in mom, though, once she meets her granddaughter for the first time. The power of children.
The second reason Elle continues to think on having children is her best friend, Marcy, is pregnant and quite happy. Elle helps Marcy out during her pregnancy from the baby shower to pacing the delivery room and what she sees is only a positive toward her current dilemma.
In between all these things is Elle trying to decide whether to keep taking the pill after each little epiphany she has throughout the story, especially when they forget to use a condom, knowing the antibiotics she’s taking for an infection lowers the effectiveness of the pill. She wavers off and on until her final decision is made for the right reason, which is really none of those she had been giving credence to. There’s only one reason when it comes to having a child with the love of her life…
I enjoyed this little tidbit in the life of Dan and Elle. The dilemma Elle has and must reconcile for herself keeps the story going, but what I liked the most, even more than the hot and sweet lovemaking between this couple, is the fact they said “I love you” to each other. A lot. I believe in their love and know whatever decision is made is reason enough.

Summary:
Elle and Dan haven’t quite achieved their goal of having sex in every room of their new house–but almost! Marriage hasn’t dampened their hunger for one another in the least, and their relationship is as hot and passionate as ever. But when Dan brings up the subject of having a baby together, Elle finds herself conflicted. Between her dysfunctional family background and her fear of how a baby might change their life together, Elle’s not sure she’s ready for the big step. Dan doesn’t bring the subject up again, but the issue takes hold in Elle’s mind. And as their frequent lovemaking sizzles with unquenchable desire, Elle’s heart is filled to the brim with love and the longing to give Dan everything.
