Make Me a Match by Diana HolquistAlicia’s review of Make Me a Match (One True Love, Book 1) by Diana Holquist
Contemporary romance released 1 Sep 06 by Forever

Sybil did not get me a copy this book. *pout* I didn’t mind too much – it is definitely worth the money.  I’m going backwards, here, because I read the sequel, The Sexiest Man Alive, first. MMaM is the first book in the One True Love series. Since nobody told me about Diana Holquist until her second book was out, I didn’t get these straight. Worse than that, this is the only other book listed for Diana Holquist. Man, this is the shortest glom. Well, at least I can look forward to Hungry for More in September 2008

Dr. Cecelia Burns has built her life around escaping her gypsy roots. She wants stability and respectability. She does not want true love. True love makes people do foolish things.

Enter her psychic sister who embraces her gypsy-ness to the n’th degree. She just happens to show up at Cecilia’s engagement party dressed in full psychic gypsy style. The doctor and lawyer guests assume she’s the entertainment for the evening, especially when she offers to give a psychic reading on who Cecilia’s real “one true love as destined by fate”. The problem is Cecilia knows her sister can actually answer this question… and it won’t be her fiancé.

Her one true love’s name happens to be Finn Concord, widower and father to an eight year old who is too smart for her own good. I liked Finn a lot.  His character was very real to me and his qualms made sense. His handling of events in the book weren’t always the best choices but they were in character.

Cecelia has blocked off her life, completely denying her childhood and family. She has good reason to recoil from her past, but it is still part of who she is and the internal struggle is wrenching. When she starts changing it isn’t easy for her, and it isn’t easy for Finn to trust her.

I love this author and I adored this book! The wacky characters are fantastic, and there is laugh-out-loud humor but it never gets in the way of the story. I can’t quite give this one the absolute top grade, like I did the last one, but it is still very excellent.
