REVIEW: The Runaway Duke by Julie Anne Long

Gwen's review of The Runaway Duke by Julie Anne Long
Historical romance released by Warner Forever 1 Aug 04
This book was in a large, unsorted pile that Sybil gave me. It's signed by the author and I think it's actually a prize for an old contest (ahem - Zara). Honestly, we're not usually this disorganized around here - but in this one instance, I'm awfully glad we were. I would have totally missed this book if Sybil hadn't had a blond moment and put it in my box! So, Zara, you'll get the book shortly (gently read only once). Meanwhile, on to my quick review...

Sandy M's review of To Taste Temptation (The Legend of Four Soldiers, Book 1) by Elizabeth Hoyt
Historical romance released by Forever 1 May 08
I'm still trying to figure out why I didn't just totally love this book. I'm known in these parts for loving practically everything I read. So while love is not the right word for me this time, I did like this book very much. I like the storyline, the characters, the romance, the mystery. But for some reason it stopped just short of me closing the book after reading the last page and having stars in my eyes while thinking, "Wow!" Read more

Lawson's review of To Taste Temptation by Elizabeth Hoyt
Historical romance released by Forever 1 May 08
I'm not ashamed of the fact that I read, loved and reviewed the three Prince books by Hoyt. She's a talented writer with a gift for story and characterization. She had an interesting twist with how fairy tales were interwoven with the rest of the book. Starting a new series about soldiers from the French and Indian War has an interesting setting and time period, and I was anticipating this start to a new series from Hoyt. And what I found was. . .

Lawson's Review of Seduced by a Spy by Andrea Pickens
Historical romance released by Forever 1 Mar 08
This is the second in Pickens' series about highly trained woman operatives, Merlin's Maidens. The first book read like Jane Bond 101 in Regency England. It left a lot open though and lead to this story, about the second of the three Maidens, Shannon, and the dashing Russian agent Alexandr Orlov. Maybe it's the sexy Russian, or maybe it's the understanding that the spy world is known to the reader, but Shannon's story is an improvement over Siena's.

This book surprised me. I read the excerpt and thought, "Oh look. Nice, predictable historical. Simple lass nurses wounded aristocrat, they fall in love and live HEA." So, I wasn't in a big tearing hurry to read it. Figured I'd get around to it eventually. Well, I finally picked it up. Holy crap. Was I ever WRONG.
This book was surprisingly unpredictable for me. I read it in a day (thank goodness for Spring Break or I'd be looking for a job now).

Contemporary romance released 1 Sep 06 by Forever
Sybil did not get me a copy this book. *pout* I didn't mind too much - it is definitely worth the money. I'm going backwards, here, because I read the sequel, The Sexiest Man Alive, first. MMaM is the first book in the One True Love series. Since nobody told me about Diana Holquist until her second book was out, I didn't get these straight. Worse than that, this is the only other book listed for Diana Holquist. Man, this is the shortest glom. Well, at least I can look forward to Hungry for More in September 2008

I think Tish Gallagher would laugh out loud at the old adage 'love isn't everything.' She loses everything else in her life throughout the course of this book except her love for her ex, Shane, and the love of her girlfriends. On top of that, someone devious is making it plain she may lose her life. Things start out slow for these characters, but once Secret Service agent Shane, is injured in the line of duty, things begin to move swiftly in emotional and mysterious ways.
