Book CoverSandy M’s review of Her Mr. Right (The Wilder Family Miniseries) by Karen Rose Smith
Contemporary Romance released by Silhouette Special Edition 1 May 08

I like a story whose characters stick by their convictions, right or wrong. Either way, sometimes you still end up with heartache. If you’re right, hopefully everything will eventually fall into place and your heart will mend. If you’re wrong, you can look inside yourself to change that conviction so you end up in a much better place.

The main characters in this book, Neil and Isobel, are the epitome of such convictions. Neil works for the Attorney General’s office and is investigating wrongdoing at the hospital where Isobel is a social worker. There is an immediate attraction between them when Neil interviews Isobel during his investigation. Both have been alone for a while and neither have any intention of acting on their attraction…at first. The more they work together to find the answers they need, Neil to find a culprit no matter who they are and Isobel to prove to him the staff love what they do and would never jeopardize the hospital, the more their attraction gets out of hand and grows.

When they both open themselves up to the truth of loving each other, Neil still feels he has to play by the book in his investigation, even at the expense of Isobel and her job. Isobel, however, feels Neil should trust her enough to be honest with her so they can work together to prove her innocence. Isobel loses her trust in Neil and knows she can never be with someone who would betray her so, even though she loves him. Neil takes one chance too many with his happiness and loses Isobel but keeps his job.

He now questions himself and his methods: was it the right thing to do to someone he loves and will he be able to make Isobel understand his motives and forgive him so they can be together?

This is a heart-warming story with so many nuances. Family, job, trust, honor, friends, truth, and, of course, love. Each is played out in a believable way that endears you to all the characters involved. Even though this is Book 5 in the series, I don’t believe you need to read the previous books to enjoy Neil and Isobel’s story.

Summary:

Neil Kane arrived at Walnut River General Hospital to investigate charges of insurance fraud, knowing he’d be greeted as Public Enemy #1. To his surprise, though, he soon discovered an unexpeteced ally in –and an undeniable attraction to — Isobel Suarez.

The sexy social worker was unfailingly loyal to the hospital that was being threatened by a hostile takeover — a takeover that Neil was making a reality. Yet the intriguing investigator was a tempation she couldn’t resist, and even by-the-book Neil couldn’t hide from the sparks they generated. But everything changed once Isobel herself was accused of wrongdoing, and Neil had to decide which was more important: his job…or the woman who’d stolen his heart.
