Maya Banks is a new author to me, but one I have wanted to try for some time. So when this book became available, I thought it would be a good one to try. Short stories to me are a great way to see if you are going to like an author and their writing without investing a lot of time and money.

The Dangerous Mr. Ryder, the first book in Louise Allen’s Those Scandalous Ravenhursts series, features that most popular of Regency heroes, the gentleman adventurer-spy. Jack Ryder, aka Lord Sebastian Ravenhurst, has been charged to bring Eva, the Grand Duchess of Maubourg, to England. The tiny duchy of Maubourg is significant to both the French and the English in terms of location and allegiance. Eva is proud, intelligent, and independent, as well as beautiful. As they make their dangerous journey, the two find themselves falling in love. While several elements of this book seem rather familiar, it was a solidly entertaining read.

(Isn't that cover eye catching?) I first discovered Virginia Kantra when I read the anthology Shifter, and was very intrigued by her novella Sea Crossing and the idea of selkies. Ms Kantra puts an entirely new spin on selkies that I've never seen before. An interesting one, that I've enjoyed reading.

I had a post on 24 Hours as a Sex Vixen in draft forever. I couldn't find a summary for the life of me. And finally in a fit of 'omg there is too much crap in draft' I deleted it. And then heard she was having a case of writers block.
Or at least I think it was her. Anyway... looks like we 'should' get a new Lisa Cach novel in December - really Jan 09 since it releases Dec 30th. What do you think of the summary?

I have been incredibly lucky lately, reading some great shifter stories, one of my very favorite reads. So far my luck is holding out and I've come across another author who has written a strong, sexy, shifting hero and a heroine who her holds her own with all that testosterone. Talk of the Town by Karen Hawkins will be hitting the stores on November 18, 2008. And there is a delightful story that goes along with how this book came about - one I forgot to get permission to tell. Really it will be MUCH better coming from Karen herself. So I will have to talk her into coming on and sharing. Or you know... find a link to it ;). The cover is too cute but I don't have it in color. I really do hate to see historical authors go contemp but I think Karen Hawkins is going to be FABULOUS at it. Laura J you will so want Talk of the Town, so you really better hope I get two copies or you are so SOL ;).

"Sleeping with Ward Cleaver" won the American Title-III Award. I'm really sure what that is, but hey, a win's a win. The cover is a pink-haired cartoon girl on a bed, it's labeled contemporary romance, and the words fun and sassy are also on the cover. Do not believe any of this, it's all there to mislead you.
