Bev(QB)’s review of Destiny’s Warrior by Heather Waters
Historical fantasy published 4 December 2007 by Berkley Sensation
Waters has created a refreshingly different hero in Gavin. He’s not completely confident in his ability to lead his clan as Laird and admits that he’s still learning and proving himself. Yes, you read that right—a Scottish Laird that admits he doesn’t know everything!
And when he must rely on Nakkole to lead him into his other life as the Prince of the Fae, he doesn’t balk at following a woman.
With Water’s interesting world building, characters, and plot twists, Destiny’s Warrior was an enjoyable read with a smile-worthy HEA. I suspect she has plans to write more stories in this world since she has started an encyclopedia of the characters.
This is the second Heather Water’s book I’ve read (the first, The Devil’s Possession, is unrelated to this one) and I think she’s an author worth keeping an eye on. She takes what could be formulaic stories and characters and gives them her own fresh spin, particularly her heroes.
From the back cover:
A love more powerful than magic.
Laird Gavin McCain, heir to the throne of fae, was raised as a human in order to preserve his life. Now, with his location discovered, Nakkole, a female guardian, is sent to protect him—and return him to the home he never knew…
But Gavin was raised not to believe in such things, and Nakkole must come to his aid in disguise. Convincing him of his dormant faery powers should prove a challenging task—especially when the very air seems clouded by the undeniable attraction they feel for each other.
And when an attempt on his life lands Gavin in a dream-like world, they discover their destinies entwined. While he must save the kingdom, she carries its future…
