REVIEW: Somebody to Love by Kristan Higgins
Laura C’s review of Somebody to Love by Kristan Higgins
Contemporary Romance published by HQN Books 24 Apr 12
This book is flat out a winner for lovers of light contemporary romance. Higgins is hit or miss for me, and a lot of the time I think it’s because she writes in first person. As far as I can recall, this is the first third-person of hers I’ve ever seen and I just love it.
REVIEW: In the Company of Witches by Joey W. Hill
Veena’s review of In the Company of Witches (Arcane Shot Series, Book 2) by Joey W. Hill
Paranormal Romance published by Berkley 1 May 12
Mikhael Roman, “bad boy of all bad boys,” dark guardian of the underworld, chases a thief onto the property of beautiful mesmerizing witch and sex demon Raina. Their first meeting takes place under a lightning blast of her power, as she strives to protect the person who has come to her for sanctuary, and the red flames and searing heat of his response. In the Company of Witches, Joey Hill has created a beautiful love story with two unusual protagonists who embrace the dark and strive to create balance.

REVIEW: Under Fire by Catherine Mann
Sandy M’s review of Under Fire (Elite Force, Book 3) by Catherine Mann
Romantic Suspense published by Sourcebooks Casablanca 1 May 12
I am loving this Elite Force series by Catherine Mann. Military mysteries with sexy heroes and intelligent and equally sexy heroines, these stories keep you turning the pages, keep you guessing, and keep your emotional upheaval on uneven ground until the very last page. Get ready for a wild ride!
EXCERPT: Fascinated by Marissa Day
Get ready to be hooked by Marissa Day.
The perfect blend of the paranormal and erotic in Regency England. That should make you curious right there. Sorcerers and Catalysts should draw you in even further. Spells and enchantments, the Fae King, evil family members hiding secrets should make you itch to get your hands on this book. Hidden depths of passion, the steamiest of lovemaking, and the awakening of a woman’s emotions by the one man with the power to do so should have you getting in the car to hightail it to your local bookstore for a quick purchase.
All of that should have you snug in a recliner – or wherever your favorite reading place may be – fervently turning the pages of Fascinated. You won’t want to put it down. You’ll read till the early morning hours. Or until you’ve finished it. Believe me. It happened to me.
So in the meantime, read the first chapter we have for you here today, and then allow me to say, “I told you so!”
Summary:
Pleasure was an elusive dream…
Alicia Hartwell has never experienced the pleasure of passion. Despite all her efforts to comprehend the notion of romantic love, it has remained an utterly foreign concept to her. Resigned to the life of a spinster, Alicia is therefore stunned when she receives a marriage proposal from the highly eligible bachelor, Lord Carstairs.
Until she met him…
But Lord Edward Carstairs is not a normal nobleman. He’s a Catalyst—able to draw magical power from the natural world to use in spells by human Sorcerers. He senses that Alicia is a victim of an evil enchantment that has suppressed her heart, and her desire. Powerfully attracted to her, Edward is certain that he’s the one to help her discover and understand her pleasure and her heart for the first time. But as Edward and Alicia’s mutual passion burns hot, their fragile love and trust could be threatened by family secrets, and a new magical intrigue neither imagined.
GUEST BLOG: Romancing the Film by Marissa Day
I didn’t come to a love of Romance and romantic fiction through books. I never read a book that could be shelved in the Romance section until I was out of college and slaving over a hot word processor trying to build my career.
I came to Romance through the movies. I’m a fan of old movies, and have been since the days when they still played them on Channel 50 at four o’clock and Ted Turner was still trying to convince people that colorization was the way of the future.
REVIEW: Fascinated by Marissa Day
Sandy M’s review of Fascinated by Marissa Day
Paranormal Historical Erotic Romance published by Berkley 5 Jun 12
For years I’ve tried reading erotic romance, and for years I’ve found very few authors who give me a balance of story, character, and the erotic. Marissa Day just went on my auto-buy list. I’m sorry I missed her first two books in this world of magic she’s created. On top of that balance she gives readers, her storyline is different than the norm. She takes you on a wild and sensual journey with two charming and intriguing characters.
REVIEW: No Tan Lines by Kate Angell
Laura C’s review of No Tan Lines (Barefoot William Series, Book 1) by Kate Angell
Contemporary Romance published by Kensington 29 May 12
Normally I don’t mind a contemporary romance as light and frothy as a game of beach volleyball next to the roaring surf, but this one feels padded. The conflict between the heroine, the uber-family-oriented, barefoot-in-the-sand Shaye Cates and the businesslike Trace Saunders just doesn’t feel real. I would have loved this book as a novella, but as a single title it just doesn’t work for me.
REVIEW: Rainshadow Road by Lisa Kleypas
Laura C’s review of Rainshadow Road by Lisa Kleypas
Contemporary Romance published by St. Martin’s Griffin 28 Feb 12
Okay, I realize I had overly high hopes for this one—I love contemporary romances and I melt glass myself. But we didn’t actually get to see much of Lucy’s glasswork. There’s a hint of magic in the way Lucy relates to glass, and we get plenty of that aspect but none of the relentless, grinding detail work that makes glass both so ghastly and so wonderful for everyday people.
DDS REVIEW: The Kelley Legacy by Various Authors
Dinca’s Duckies Do Series review of The Kelley Legacy by Ferrarella, Cornelison, Barrett, Cassidy, Kennedy & Dees
Romantic Suspense published by Harlequin Romantic Suspense
The Kelley Legacy Series has a really good story arc with authors I have enjoyed in the past. But the series has the feel of having been rushed to print and some of the books needed to spend more time in editing. If you can get past the editing issues and keep your thoughts on the storylines, you may enjoy the series.
