Veena’s review of Temptation Bay (Windfall Island, Book 1) by Anna Sullivan
Romantic Suspense published by Forever 03 Sep 13

This debut entry by author Anna Sullivan delivers a great story with a lot of action and suspense that keeps the reader clueless about the identity of the true villain even at the end. Take heart, there is a Book 2.

It all started at the time of the prohibition when the islanders of Windfall Island risked their lives to bring in liquor from offshore ships. One night they brought back a baby along with the liquor, and, as it turned out, the baby was no ordinary abandoned child – she was a heiress. Knowing that the authorities would never believe their story, plus their own babies were dying of sickness, it was easy to switch this baby with one of the dead infants.

Now fast forward to the present time and new evidence suggests that the baby possibly could have survived and might possibly have descendants living on Windfall Island. PI Dexter Keegan comes to the Island to help close the speculation. There’s a lot of money at stake and people will lie, steal, and kill to keep their secrets.

Maggie Solomon has made her life on Windfall Island. She runs a successful charter service and, boy, does she have a chip on her shoulder. I would say it’s the size of a large boulder, and for Dex to get through to her will take a lot. But our hero perseveres and breaks through, long hard road that it might be. Maggie’s character is the only real sour note in the story. She’s just so crusty and hard to win over that it takes away some points on the romance side.

The author does a great job with the island and the characters that she introduces us to. I am looking forward to the next book; the hero and heroine whom we meet in this story seem to be fantastic and hopefully we’ll be able to fast forward Dexter and Maggie’s lives a bit.

While clearly there are people on the Island in the pay of the villains, it’s not totally clear who they might be. I encourage you to speculate, and I definitely plan on finding the next book to read because I really want to know how it all ends.

Grade: B

Summary:

Anna Sullivan brings us the first book in her witty new contemporary romance series set off the coast of Maine.

TEMPTATION NEVER TASTED SO SWEET . . .

Maggie Solomon has always been one of Windfall Island’s favorite daughters. A beautiful, passionate charter pilot who loves this remote Maine island, Maggie has never cared much for outsiders-until her latest passenger arouses the curiosity of the town . . . and something hot and irresistible in Maggie. With his long, lean looks and razor-sharp wit, the man is temptation itself.

Cop-turned-PI Dexter Keegan is on a covert mission to solve the case that will make his career: uncovering the identity of the Stanhope heir, kidnapped nearly a century ago. No one on this fiercely protective island can know what he’s doing, not even the spirited, blue-eyed beauty who infuriates-and excites-Dex. As the desire between them ignites, Maggie becomes the key to the case . . . and the target of an unknown enemy. Now Dex will do anything to protect the woman he’s come to love-even risk his own life.
