I really like books about troubled kids and the adults that help them. I know a lot of readers are actively repelled by that sort of thing, but I'm not one of them. Stories about mothers, social workers, or concerned human beings doing anything and everything to protect their children just tug at my heartstrings and make my inner budding social worker squeeful. And in Susan Crandall's romantic suspense debut, she hits everything right.

REVIEW: Lifelines by C.J. Lyons
August 12, 2008
Wendy the Super Librarian's review of Lifelines by C.J. Lyons
Romantic suspense released by Berkley 04 March 2008
Every once in a while a book comes along that just doesn't work for me, and I can't seem to put my finger on why. It's competently written. It's got an interesting storyline. The characters seem like intriguing people. But it doesn't grab me. That's usually when I fall back on clichés. Such is the case with C.J. Lyons' debut novel. By the final 100 pages, the appropriate cliché finally came to me: Too much of a good thing. Read more

Limecello's review of Beyond Fearless by Rebecca York
Paranormal romantic suspense published by Berkley 4 Dec 07
I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this book. I've never read a book by Rebecca York before, and while I'm intrigued, I'm afraid I'm not enthralled. The premise of the book is interesting enough, but the story lost me after a while. There were a lot of unique qualities and intricacies, but put together, it became too much.

Romantic Suspense released by Pocket 22 Jul 08
I'm always amazed at how Sandra Brown takes the unlikeliest of characters, brings them together in ways that have them either suspicious of one another or disliking each other, and the next thing we know those characters are set on a course for the relationship of a lifetime after going through hell and back to get there. The rides we're given with her heroes and heroines are always extraordinary, and Griff and Laura in Play Dirty are among the best of Brown's main characters yet. Read more

Contemporary romantic suspense often walks a fine line between the various elements that make them up. How to be contemporary without overloading on technical details. How to be romantic without sacrificing the suspense. How to be suspenseful without sacrificing the romance. This book didn't do such a good balancing job. Read more

I know when I read a book by Colleen Thompson I'm going to be glued to every page, enjoying the romance and love of her characters, trying to figure out who the villain is, and never seeing that twist that comes out of left field until it hits me right between the eyes. This book is not the exception. Read more

Romantic suspense released by Mira 01 February 2008
When my older sister was pregnant with my nephew she went through a phase where she couldn't read about "anything bad happening to children." This coming from a woman who used to read early Stephen King horror novels in my parents' basement, in the middle of the night. Even factoring in her pregnancy hormones, I suspect this is what will keep a lot of readers away from Gwen Hunter's latest, despite the fact that it's not a terribly gory read. Sometimes the mere suggestion and an active imagination are too much to overcome.
