Veena’s review of Liar (Lost and Found, Book 3) by Fern Michaels
Romantic Suspense published by Zebra Books 22 Aug 23

An exciting and fast-paced action-adventure story that is totally in my wheelhouse. Luna is a psychic. When she finds herself inside an old armoire that her brother just acquired at auction, it speaks to her of a decades’ old kidnapping case that was never solved. With her friends, and especially her U.S, Marshall boyfriend, it is finally time to put the mystery to rest.

The story weaves the past and present flawlessly, giving us an excellent background on what was going on during the time the kidnapping and rescue happened and the current time, as Luna and her friends investigate the clues and follow the trail.  Will justice finally be served?

The author brings one of my favorite cities to life as the friends shop, eat, and explore the city. It brought alive a time when I visited with a few of my friends and stayed in Manhattan, exploring as these characters do.  Of course, along the way, they are looking to solve the old mystery.  They know who was kidnapped, they know a ransom was paid, they have now discovered the kidnapper removed the young man in the armoire, which had “Help Me” written on the inside.

Then what happened? The truth is surprising but not unexpected.  I don’t want to spoil the suspense, so I will refrain from saying more about the story, other than to tell you I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

Grade: A

Summary:

Luna Bodman always looks forward to a new shipment of furniture at the restoration shop. Her brother, Cullen, has a knack for finding discarded pieces with an intriguing history, and Luna likes to sit with each item to see if she can feel any kind of vibrations. Usually, Cullen does his thing while Luna does hers, but the arrival of an old armoire triggers a reaction in Luna that’s impossible to ignore.

From the moment Luna wiggles inside the armoire and closes her eyes, she feels an overpowering and disturbing sensation. Emerging, she asks for a flashlight and discovers words scraped into the wood: “Help me!” Hoping to uncover the piece’s secrets, Luna contacts her good friend, U.S. Marshall Christopher Gaines, and the group sets out to trace the armoire’s origins. The journey takes them to a military school in New England, and a mysterious, long-ago ransom case. The kidnappers were never found, but decades later, the answers may finally be within reach . . .
