Limecello’s review of This Is What I Want by Megan Hart
Erotic fiction short story published by Harlequin Spice Brief on 1 Dec 07
I really enjoy Megan Hart’s writing, and I thought it’d be nice to complete/work on my collection of all her Spice books. Accordingly, I bought this Spice Brief. I ended up with a short, enjoyable read that was definitely worth my money.
I won’t summarize the plot because This Is What I Want is so short – and the blurb is sufficient. I read this not long after reading Ms. Hart’s newest Spice Brief Layover, and felt there were distinct differences in her writing, yet a number of similarities. Ms. Hart’s writing style is stark and at times what seems to be unfinished (though it actually is) – but its gripping and emotionally involving as well. There’s just something about it that keeps readers enthralled, and coming back for more.
The beginning of this short story is attention getting, and I liked how there were two different concurrent stories of a sort. It was nice how Ms. Hart juxtaposed two such different and somewhat disjointed stories together, and connected them. Ms. Hart carefully weaves together all the components so that they are separate and distinct, yet all part of the whole.
I felt that this also gave the characters more depth, as they were able to display distinct facets of their personalities in the different settings. Eve Grant and Lane DeMarco while an unexpected couple, work perfectly. For example, Eve and Lane have little interaction in person – yet the ending is entirely believable and in fact, welcome.
I recommend This Is What I Want to anyone who wants a satisfying story with a lot of heat in a little package. (And of course I loved the little shout out to classical mythology in Eve’s blogger persona, Eris Apparent. And that it was right. Kudos to Ms. Hart!)
Grade: B+
Summary:
By day she was Eve Grant, customer service drone in a drab office cubicle. But at night she became Eris Apparent, sex goddess of the blogosphere, where she could express her true self in sizzling erotic fantasies. As Eve she entertained aching, unfulfilled fancies about her sexy co-worker. But as Eris Apparent she was outspoken and demanding as she carried on a steamy cyberspace affair with the mysterious Tell_me.

Thanks for the review. So these were fun to read together? i really love the setup of Layover, and this one sounds good, too! And actually, I think I have a kind of coupon for the eharlequin….
Hi Carolyn Jean! 🙂 I liked reading this one – it doesn’t tie into Layover – but I just happened to read them nearly one after the other.
As for coupons – joy! 😀
