I’ve really enjoyed Ms. James’ Rough Riders series, which is all about her McKay family members and their ups and downs and tragedies that her fans have come to love. Now she’s giving us a look at another part of that clan, the West cousins, and Nick West is up first in this delightfully fun Christmas romp.
Holly North is an accountant. Staid and about as boring as you can get. She’s about to let loose her wild side, though, and she ends up having the night of her dreams. Her best friend Ivy owns a strip club, Sugar Plums, and Christmas is their busiest time. Her Mistress Christmas is out sick, so Holly finally gives in and steps into the role, agreeing to only strut across the stage and chat up the clients. No dancing. Which is a good thing since Holly is a little bit of a klutz. Little does she know that Santa is waiting in the wings and he’s got one heck of a Christmas wish for her.
Determined to get to the bottom of how his friend was ripped off at Sugar Plums after a lap dance, Detective Nick West does some investigating on his own time. Mistress Christmas is the culprit, but when he gets a glimpse of the sexed-up Mrs. Claus in action, he has more in mind that just handcuffing her. After his own lap dance, Nick is hooked and when Holly tosses out her Christmas wish of a night sensual and sexual pleasure with the handsomest cowboy she’s ever met, he wastes no time in obliging her. It’s his secret wish too with this woman who is full of contradictions.
What they don’t bargain for is the feelings that crop up between them during their night of pleasure and they each have other secrets to reveal, but even those good intentions are waylaid for the night to a time when it might be too late. This is a good-time read that will have you chuckling, then fanning yourself during the great love scenes between these two, and then sighing at the sensitivity and emotion that unexpectedly arises. The sense of family is also part of this series as it is in the Rough Rider series, which is a main attraction for me.
If you haven’t read Lorelei James, give her a try. She’s got those sexy cowboys down pat.
