Veena’s review of Dark Sentinel (Dark Series, Book 32) by Christine Feehan
Paranormal Romance published by Berkley 04 Sep 18
Has this series gone on for too long? I thought starting with the North American contingent would bring some freshness to the long-running series, but it seems to be a lot more of the same in terms of plot and story. There are new characters being introduced all the time and some of them are quite interesting, which is what keeps me coming back to read the next release in the series.
Andor Kantona is an ancient one from the monastery who has made his way to North America. Having given up all hope of a life mate, he is determined to take as many vampires with him as he seeks the sun. Fortunately for him, a fury in the form of Lorraine, aka his long-awaited life mate, bursts on the scene determined to help him fight. Apparently, though, he’s so far gone that even his life mate might not be able to bring him back to life but for a ritual which she performs along with his other ancient brethren.
Now the Carpathians, along with Lorraine, make their way to Tariq’s secure compound, where Lorraine gets a chance to learn more about the Carpathian way and to make new friendships. There’s some battles with the vampires, and from a story arc perspective it becomes clear that Sergey Malinov is the more powerful vampire, unlike his older brother as was originally suspected. Other than tha,t there’s the usual fare of battles, rituals to find and remove worms and soul splinters, and identify life mates amongst the psychic women who shelter or befriend the folks in the compound.
I do have to give the author kudos that Andor, for all his ancient ways, has a good grasp of the modern and is open to equality with his life mate, unlike his other Neanderthal-like brethren. I am so looking forward to Gary’s story, though it doesn’t seem like it’s on the horizon yet, since it seems that we will see more action in California for the near future.
Please, Ms. Feehan, give us some interesting and new twists to keep the heart of this series beating.
Summary:
After the devastating loss of her entire family, Lorraine Peters heads to the woods searching for peace of mind and anything to quell the anger in her soul. Instead, she stumbles upon a scene of horrific violence, as one man lies helpless in the face of three attackers.
Andor Katona’s existence has been a harsh one, living for centuries as a monk in the Carpathian Mountains. Unable to find his lifemate, he almost welcomes his release from a colorless and unfeeling world at the hands of the vampire hunters who have mistaken him for their prey. That is, until a whirling ball of fury bursts onto the scene, determined to save him.
In one glimpse, in one breath, Andor recognizes Lorraine as his lifemate, but it will take more than their telepathic connection to convince her of their immortal bond. Lorraine is a lethal combination of cunning and courage. So much so that she captures the attention of a master vampire, one who has already lost what was once irreplaceable to him. One who will strike with deadly precision at Andor and his ancient Carpathian comrades in a war to end all wars. . .
