Veena’s review of Ain’t She Sweet (Green Mountain Romance, Book 6) by Marie Force
Contemporary Romance published by Berkley 26 Apr 16
As I started this book I couldn’t recall Charley and where she fit in with her other siblings. She did not make much of an impression on me as a reader in the earlier books and, to be honest, neither did Tyler, if he’s made more than a very brief appearance in the series to date. The series, of course, has become a “MUST READ” and as a reader the greatest tribute I can offer the writer is the emotional investment I have in the Abbotts. I don’t know of any other series where I’ve laughed and cried so hard. Does the author deliver the same emotional punch in this book?
Charley is definitely not my most favorite Abbott. She’s supposed to be the stubborn, feisty one and let me tell you that she lives up to her reputation to the point that she gets tiresome in her need to keep herself isolated from relationships because of a failed episode during her college years. She does not have any qualms, however, about the benefits of a relationship with Tyler and even goes so far as to put a deadline on it.
Tyler is a rich and handsome young man. He loves Charley to distraction, so much so I feel he needed to give her a kick in the butt every so often with how tiresome she is, but he is a never failing lovely man that I felt did not deserve Charley through more than half the book.
For me personally the first half is so sweet it really drags. There is a nice sprinkling of updates on what’s going on with the other romances and, of course, a few hooks into new and emerging ones. The emotional impact came from the youngest brother who’s newly become a father and his trials and tribulations dealing with a girlfriend who’s definitely not emotionally ready to be a mom. I would really like to see how his story turns out when the time is right.
All in all, I’m a bit disappointed with this book. Perhaps Ms. Force set the bar so high with some of the earlier books in the series, but I had a hard time getting through the first half of the story. I just kept waiting for some type of conflict that never really comes about. Nevertheless, this is still one of my favorite series and I do want to see how some of the remaining siblings find their happily ever afters.
