Sandy M’s review of Only (Holton Woods, Book 2) by HelenKay Dimon
Erotic Contemporary Romance published by Berkley 7 Oct 14
When I pick up a book by a favorite author, I don’t usually read the back cover blurb. I just want to get started reading. So I was very pleasantly surprised to find this story is part of the Holton Woods series, Sebastian’s and Kyra’s book. I really love Bast, the little-bit-nerdy lawyer with glasses who has that sexy, demanding side to him. And Kyra? At first I wasn’t sure she was going to work for me because of her age, but the girl lets nothing slide, calls it like she sees it, and doesn’t let Bast get away with a thing.
Bast does his best to keep away from Kyra – she’s the dangerous bartender’s sister. The man has been with Jarrett since both men worked the wrong side of the law years before, and Wade would have no problem at all killing Bast for touching his sister, at least that’s what Bast thinks. As does everyone else, and they don’t hesitate a bit telling him so when they, one by one, discover this new relationship. Having sworn to never let a woman in again after his ex-wife slathered their menage tendencies in a book, Bast finds himself wanting more and more of Kyra, but there he stops just short of making a final commitment.
Having grown up with a criminal father, Kyra went to her brother to get away from that life. It’s been Wade who’s made sure she has everything she’s needed to stay free. It’s Kyra who makes the first move, since she knows Bast would never come to her. The age difference means nothing to her, and she’s her own woman, so Wade will have to deal. It takes a few tries, but finally Kyra has her man. The sizzle and fire between these two shoots off the page during each and every love scene. And Kyra is happy with that, as long she’s the only one for Bast. None of that past love life the whole world knows about now.
It’s Kyra who’s in love. She knows her heart, for someone so young. But she’s had to grow up very fast because of her father. So she goes with the flow where Bast is concerned, living in the moment and leaving the future between them alone. I love watching Bast go through every emotion as his heart belongs more and more to Kyra but he just doesn’t know it yet. He puts up every roadblock, but, believe me, he’s a goner from the beginning. Poor man. He’s got some huge eye opening in store.
Kyra’s father thinks he’s still calling the shots, but she’s got a much smarter head on her shoulders than he gives her credit for. We also see Wade and Elijah again as they make their way through their minefield of a relationship. There’s very few male/male stories out there that I like, but this one is at the top of the list. There is a novella set for release in spring of next year, but don’t know yet if that’s going to be about these two. I’m thinking it is, so hope that’s not wishful thinking. And I’m very glad we get caught up with Jarrett and Becca. Though it’s dysfunctional at best, I enjoy this family a lot. They have no problem keeping each other in line, but they do it with love and respect.
Summary:
He’s a man who fixes difficult situations. She’s the one thing he can’t handle—and the one thing he can’t resist
Sebastian Jameson negotiates for high-end clients who need problems taken care of quickly and discreetly. Accustomed to being in control, he’s still reeling from his ex-wife’s decision to write a tell-all about their private life, one that highlighted their bedroom activities. The fallout left Bast’s love life in chaos, making him a magnet for women who thrive on risky fantasies, and a pariah to all others.
Kyra Royer knows all about Bast’s reputation—and is intrigued enough to try to change him into a one-woman guy. But getting him into her bed will be a challenge. He’s known her brother for years, and her brother, with his rough past and sniper abilities, is not a man you cross. Kyra knows Bast thinks she’s off-limits, so she’ll have to get creative to make him hers.
As Kyra turns up the heat, Bast struggles to resist the sexy young woman’s considerable charms. But when Bast’s job turns from tricky to deadly, keeping Kyra nearby might be the only way to keep her alive—even if it means getting closer than he ever intended
