Ash’s review of Wild Cat (Shifters Unbound , Book 3) by Jennifer Ashley

It’s hard to find a shifter series these days that stands out from the rest, and Jennifer Ashley has managed to do that. I loved the first book in this series, but was a bit let down by the second, so I was wary going into this one. I should know better than to doubt Jennifer Ashley, though. I can’t say I have ever read a bad book by her.
Now, a few of the things I don’t want in a romance are in this book, but not a single one bothered me. I don’t usually like the heroes to be non-paranormal or to be cops. Diego is both of those, but he is fully capable of holding his own. In the beginning of Wild Cat, he is still under the assumption that Shifters are tamed. I really enjoyed seeing this world through his eyes. It’s easy to read from his POV. I think I enjoyed his more than Cassidy’s. I wouldn’t mind going back into his head in the future.
As for Cassidy, she is…okay. I never really warmed up to her. She is just overshadowed by all the men in this book — Diego, Eric (especially Eric), and Diego’s brother Xavier (who I hope ends up with a book). I guess I just want more from her. She is mourning her dead mate, but sometimes I feel like she didn’t really love him as much as she thought, yet they were mated? It’s just not clear to me. It almost seems to be there to help the plot. I don’t really care about that, though. It doesn’t affect my enjoyment of the book. Actually, now that it’s been a few days since I read it, nothing about her really stands out to me.
I am really starting to care about this world and the shifters in it. I am rooting for them to find a way to get rid of the collar, and I hope it does happen within the series. Something has to happen, or else I am afraid it will all start to feel the same. I am excited to read Eric’s book, and I am enjoying the move to a new Shiftertown better than I thought I would.
