Ash’s review of Wicked Highlander (Dark Sword Series, Book 3) by Donna Grant
Paranormal Romance published by St. Martin’s 02 Nov 10
So I’ve put this book off for awhile because the first two books didn’t blow me away. Wicked Highlander is much better, and it finally really drew me into the story.
Quinn and Marcail are the more interesting couple of the series so far for me. Though it might just be Quinn, Marcail I could do without sometimes. Even though he’s an immortal Warrior, he is not written like an exaggeration of a person. I think that is what I like most about Wicked Highlander – Quinn is such an easy character to read.
Marcail started off strong, but, sadly, it seems like the more she cares for Quinn, the dumber she gets. I don’t think she has any self-preservation, and I like my heroines to be a little stronger than that. Most of the time she isn’t too bad, though she isn’t as interesting a person as I think Quinn deserves.
Deirdre this time is still more bark than bite to me. She continues to say how powerful she is, but we never really see it. Everyone from the previous books have appearances too, but I’m more interested with what’s going on at the mountain. The side characters, who all seem to have books coming, are another part that have me really into this book. I’m fascinated by all of them and I want to see what happens with them.
The series is getting better book by book and I look forward to the next one. Isla is one of those other characters whose story I’m interested in. I hope the progression continues, because Wicked Highlander has kicked things into gear and that is what I was waiting for.
Grade: B+
