Dinca’s review of Just His Luck (Sterlings’ Montana, Book 3) by B.J. Daniels
Romantic Suspense published by HQN 27 Aug 19
A romance with a dead woman talking is not typical. It’s more of a mystery/who done it with a love angle thrown in. I enjoyed the storyline of this book. It is definitely a story worth reading.
Lizzy’s first day as the newly elected sheriff starts with a cold case when Ariel’s car is found at the bottom of the local pond. It’s been ten years since her disappearance on the night of their high school graduation party. The entire graduating class is at their ten-year reunion and party coming up – they are all suspects in Ariel’s death – and Lizzy tries to interview them all. Ariel knew everyone’s secrets and was not above bullying and blackmail to make sure she always got her way all those years ago. As all those secrets are unveiled, motives come tumbling out. Everyone in attendance has a reason to have wished Ariel dead.
In their senior year, Shade Sterling and Lizzy shared an unforgettable kiss. Much to the distress of Ariel. She did everything to keep them apart, even disappearing. Her reappearance is in the pond near Shade’s home. She’s still messing with their lives, still keeping them apart. Shade discovers he is the number one suspect in Ariel’s murder; the rest of the suspects are the others Ariel bullied in their senior class.
It’s a good thing this book has a lot of chapters. Each one reveals why every one of the attendees could be the killer. I never did latch on to everything that each person was guilty of or their personal secret. It was a very interesting read and I had a hard time putting it down. Now I need to go back and read Books 1 and 2 of the series.
