REVIEW: To Catch A Thief by Christina Skye

Gwen's review of To Catch A Thief (Draycott Abbey Series) by Christina Skye
Contemporary romantic action/suspense released by HQN 1 Sep 08
I really liked this entry in Skye's loosely related Draycott Abbey series. It's chock full of action, romance, sensuality, priceless works of art, and good villains. One of those overall fun books that is a blast to read in the airport or on the commuter train. There are some very mild paranormal elements - both of the woowoo kind and the sci-fi kind. Just a fun book. Read more

Seriously - go read it - but read it first cuz I think you might hatttteeessss her (the heroine, Nicole) if you read the first book first (Sweet Talk). Can't wait to see what Lime thinks and will even try and finish my review if I can get to it.
Why am I so bouncy happy about it right now, when I read it months and months ago? Because it has a soft spot in my cold, black heart as I reread the series while under house arrest. It made me smile while I was trying not to freak the hell out. Read more

Limecello's review of Sweet Talk (Bakery Sisters, Book 1) by Susan Mallery (caution! music on the site!)
Contemporary romance published by HQN 1 Jul 08
I really enjoy Susan Mallery's books - both her novels, and the categories she writes. There's a special quality to her writing that keeps me coming back for more. In a way, I equate her with Diana Palmer - because her writing is loosely formulaic, and in a way you know what you're going to get (N.B. I mean this as a good thing). Ms. Mallery is an author I make note of, and read her books as soon as I can get my hands on them. In fact, I pretty much picked up Sweet Talk at 1 AM, and read it until I finished it at 4 AM.

Gwen's review of The Darkest Pleasure (Lords of the Underworld, Book 3) by Gena Showalter
Contemporary paranormal romance released by HQN 1 Jul 08
This new paranormal series from Showalter has been a very pleasant surprise - it has managed to stand out as unique and interesting in what has become a rather crowded field of contenders. And once again, the Cover Gods have shined a happy light on Showalter - isn't this one yummy? Read more

Gwen's review of The Darkest Kiss (Lords of the Underworld, Book 2) by Gena Showalter
Contemporary paranormal romance released by HQN 1 Jun 08
The Cover Goddess has been very good to Showalter with this contemporary paranormal series. Every one of the books has a beautifully rendered photo of a gorgeous man. I think this book has the best of all of them. What's inside of the cover isn't half bad either. Read more

Finn's review of Knave’s Honor (King John, Book 3) by Margaret Moore
Historical Romance released by HQN 1 Jan 08
Well just the fact that one of the main character’s names is Finn made me curious about this book. Lady Elizabeth d’Averette likes adventure and she meets it in human form when she encounters the outlaw Finn on the road home. Those who know Lizette know she has more courage than sense. Which attracts Finn like a fly to honey! Read more

Sandy M's review of The Bride by Carolyn Davidson
Historical Romance published by HQN Books 1 Feb 08
I just could not get into this book. The characters are very stiff and dry. The dialogue is the same. The storyline is fine, but with such dryness it never really picks up and you never get emotionally involved in the characters' lives.

Limecello's review of Fearless by Diana Palmer
Contemporary romance released by Harlequin on 1 Jun 08
I love Diana Palmer’s books. I don't know what it is about her, but I love her writing. Love. She's an author most readers tend to have strong opinions about. I admit, some of her story lines seem old and rehashed - but, each one still has unique aspects. Her writing has a warmth and wry humor that grips you. Ms. Palmer's books are fun, witty, classy, and very enjoyable.

SciFi/Futuristic Romance released by HQN 1 Jun 08
SciFi/Futuristic Romance tends to be hit or miss for me. And lately it's been all miss. That's why I was I was nicely surprised by Moonstruck, the first in Susan Grant's new Borderlands series. It is sure to be enjoyed by readers who like a bit of Space Opera, and readers who like a kick ass heroine.

Sandy M's review of Dark of the Moon (Roaring Twenties Supernaturals, Book 2) by Susan Krinard
Historical paranormal romance released by HQN on 1 Mar 08
This is the second book in Krinard's vampire/werewolf trilogy, the first was Chasing Midnight, which dealt with a werewolf hero and vampire heroine, and the last will be Come the Night, scheduled for Oct '08. In Moon we have vamps of all kinds rampaging through 1926 New York. One of those is a very tortured vampire trying to come to terms with his violent past. It takes a strong woman to help him through it.
