Veena’s review of Bad Seed by Sharon Sala
Romantic Suspense published by Sourcebooks Casablanca 21 Jan 25

Hayley doesn’t even know she’s in the crosshairs of a killer, when she arrives in Jubilee, Kentucky to take up her next assignment. She’s interested in Brendan when she sees him bring out a special treat for an elderly couple. Then when he sends her a special desert and becomes her inside liaison on all things to do with the hotel, she’s a fan. But, of course, the path to true romance can’t be smooth and they’ll do their share of navigating rough waters before they make safe harbor.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the small town of Jubilee and all the goings-on that have kept the townspeople busy.  Now Hayley and Brendan will do their share of holding off stalkers and killers as they go on with the business of courting each other through fancy deserts and fun action between the sheets.

Hayley’s relationship with her pretentious parents and their actions when they find that one of the richest men in the country is courting their daughter to come work for them is hilarious. It’s the family settings that are so heartwarming with the interaction between the matriarch, the brothers, and their wives and their welcome to Hayley and her parents.

The twist with Brendan’s stalker and daughter of the current manager of the hotel is an interesting but, in my opinion, unnecessary twist to the story. I enjoyed catching up with all the characters we’ve met so far from this small town.

I wonder what, if anything, is next in the cards for this part of the world. I certainly hope there’s more, since I hate saying goodbye to characters whom I’ve truly enjoyed and become familiar with.

Grade: B

Summary:

Can she have the man of her dreams and the life she’s always wanted?

It’s love at first sight when head pastry chef Brendan Pope meets private investigator Harley Banks at the Serenity Inn in Jubilee, KY. Harley is staying there for her latest investigation. But unknown to them both, Harley has a hitman after her, courtesy of the wrong doer she put behind bars on her last case. The FBI gets involved to clean up the loose ends so Harley can continue the investigation at the inn. But after nearly losing her, Brendan will stop at nothing to make sure Harley is safe and the criminals get their comeuppance.
