Book CoverVeena’s review of Before He Vanished (Winchester Tennessee, Book 6) by Debra Webb
Romantic Suspense published by Harlequin Intrigue 18 Feb 20

A story so unbelievable that it will keep you on the edge of your seat as it’s unfolding. A grieving mother finally ends her silence on her young son’s disappearance, unleashing a flood of events will leave bodies in its wake before the dust settles.

When Halle’s best friend and neighbor disappeared on his way home from school, she was devastated and has never quite gotten over the trauma. Now a seasoned reporter, she approaches her neighbor and mother of the little boy to allow her to write the story.  A copy of the story reaches Liam Hart in California, who is surprised at the resemblance between the lost child and himself. Having recently lost his father, Liam heads off to Winchester, Tennessee in search of answers.

As he teams up with Halle, who is convinced that he is her childhood friend now grown up and with a different name, they go in search of answers, when the woman who could have been his mother is murdered in cold blood. Is he truly Halle’s childhood friend? Why does he not remember but then flashes of memories seem to indicate that he does have memories of this town and of Halle?

I really enjoyed the twists and turns of this labyrinthic mystery that managed to surprise me as it unfolded. Of course, Halle and Liam not only search for clues about what might have happened twenty plus years ago, but also find themselves falling in lust. A nice thrill that I enjoyed very much.

Grade: B
