Go figure – not only is BDSM real, but there is a school to teach boys and girls to play their role in that world, be they dominant or submissive. Andie Lincoln is an innocent, In fact, she’s a rarity in the modern world: a virgin. Her boyfriend, it turns out, is a dominant who wants her to be trained to be his submissive and enrolls her at the premier BDSM academy in the country. Andie, Terence, and Fulton are going to discover the truth of the “slips twixt cup and lip.”
Fulton Mathews is not exactly enthralled to be thrust with a student who is an innocent and also untouchable in certain aspects. Afraid of the many ways Andie can disrupt the chemistry of his class room and his planned activities, he first tries to discourage her by pointing out how many worthy students she’s outed by calling in a special favor from the principal. Soon he’s unable to resist her charm and his role in awakening the inner submissive in her.
For all that Fulton makes Andie feel guilty of taking up a coveted spot, she soon settles down, making friends, exploring her culinary talents in the academy’s kitchen, and discovering herself. I’m not sure how she stayed a virgin, because her curiosity has her poking into all sorts of areas that are out of bounds for students and gets her into trouble, meriting personal punishment from the professor. It turns out she likes a bit of exhibitionism and pain and has to force herself to stop from taking the ultimate step, since her boyfriend has claim on her virginity, even if everything else is open season.
If you are interested in BDSM but somewhat new to it, this book is an excellent primer with a great happily ever after and an interesting cast of characters. While the story is somewhat predictable, there are some great moments that help ratchet up the suspense, like Andie’s near drowning or Terence’s beautiful seduction scene with candles and flowers, and some possible ghost sightings.
