Ms. Feehan kicks off her new series with brand new, exciting characters who have some very intriguing psychic traits. The Ferraro siblings are shadow riders in that they can literally ride the shadows to travel from one place to another hidden in plain sight. Chapter one is electrifying as Stefano Ferraro puts his stamp of ownership on Francesca Capella at first meeting. So how does it all turn out from there?
Francesca is a wonderful heroine, both brave and wounded. She desperately needs the position in her friend’s uncle’s business but, at the same time she’s very unsure of who Stefano Ferraro is and what his actions towards her signify. Little does she know that she offers hope to a slew of siblings and cousins of a better, softer future than they had ever envisaged. It’s really cute how they come in to check her out and try to make friends, as the townspeople welcome her while shying away from any deeper contact or relationship.
Who is this man who mesmerizes her? He’s left her with his expensive coat and a wad of money that she’s reluctant to use. I am really impressed at how she keeps his rich coat safe while shivering on the floor of her apartment. I am somewhat disturbed by his uber forceful and dominant personality that seems to cross the line from edgy and erotic into territory I don’t personally like.
Francesca is on the run, trying to outrun the trouble in her past. Her back story is fairly dark and you can’t help but sympathize with her and adore her for her desire to keep Stefano and his family safe from her past. I love how his siblings, particularly his sister, give her a demonstration of their own abilities and pledge to keep her safe.
The Ferraro family is adorable and I look forward to seeing more of them in the future books in the series.
