DDS REVIEWS: Immortal Witches Series by Maggie Shayne

Sandy M's Duckies Do Series reviews of the Immortal Witches Series by Maggie Shayne
Historical/Contemporary Paranormal Romances released Dec 98 - Jan 02
Witch stories run either hot or cold for me. I have to admit, most don't do much for me, while a few I totally love. This series is one I absolutely love. I enjoyed everything about it, from the characters to the storyline to the villain. I really like how Ms. Shayne overlaps the characters from book to book, intertwines the storylines while still making each story individual to the current hero and heroine, all the while still giving us the romance we look for.

Gwen's review of Dark Light (Ghost Hunters, Book 5) by Jayne Castle
Sci-fi romance released by Jove 26 Aug 08
I've read three of the Ghost Hunters books now - this one, Silver Master (#4), and Ghost Hunter (#3). I'd have to say that my opinion of all three is consistent - good, slightly above average reads in the sci-fi romance sub-genre. I like them quite a bit better than I do the Arcane Society books, but considering how much I don't like those, that may not be a compliment. Read more

Gwen's review of Turbulent Sea (Drake Sisters, Book 6) by Christine Feehan
Contemporary paranormal romance released Jove by 29 Jul 08
This is my least favorite of Feehan's series. I love the Ghost Walkers. Am stupidly in love with her Carpathians (yes, I'm in treatment for it). LOVE her Leopards. Drakes? Not so much. But I still read them. Yes. I'm in treatment for that too. Nevertheless, I am happy to announce that I really liked this entry. Read more

Devon's Review of Fallen (7 Deadly Sins, Book 2) by Erin McCarthy
Paranormal Romance released by Jove 29 Apr 08
Fallen is the second book in Erin McCarthy's darker paranormal series. It has a gorgeous cover, an intriguing premise revolving around unsolved murders, a tormented hero, and an unusual heroine. While there were certain elements that I enjoyed, these parts did not add up to a particularly strong whole.

Review: The Hollow by Nora Roberts

Lawson's Review of The Hollow (Sign of Seven Trilogy, Book 2) by Nora Roberts
Paranormal romance released by Jove 6 May 2008
This is the second in the Sign of Seven Trilogy by Nora Roberts. The first book, Blood Brothers (my review is here), of course, had the set up for the story. Three young boys, best friends, freed a demon near their hometown. For seven days, every seven years the demon wrecks havoc on the town and it's innocent inhabitants. The three boys, now grown and waiting for the demon to come again meet up with three women who are tied to the whole mess in more ways than one. If you've read the first book, you know all of this already. If you haven't, go get it! It's Nora Roberts!

LauraD's Review of Fallen by Erin McCarthy
Paranormal Romance released by Jove 29 Apr 08
This is the second in Erin McCarthy’s 7 Deadly Sins series, and now I’m going to have to go track down the first one, because “Fallen” was just that good. Gabriel St. James is a demon, cursed to drive women crazy with love for him. Sara Michaels is the woman he lets into his life. Throw in a murder mystery 5 generations old, a couple of Big Secrets, a few more demons and an absinthe addiction....
It might sound over the top, but I promise, it’s not.

Review: What Looks Like Crazy by Charlotte Hughes
March 12, 2008
Devon's review of What Looks Like Crazy by Charlotte Hughes
Contemporary fiction released by Jove 26 Feb 08
What Looks Like Crazy is not my usual cup of tea. It's contemporary fiction, heavy on the humor. There are romantic elements to be sure, but the book reminds me more of Chick-Lit than anything else. There's a heroine with a messed up love life, a weird family and friends and an equally kooky professional life. She gets into all manner of ridiculous situations, and indulges in makeovers and retail therapy when she's feeling down.
However, What Looks Like Crazy is much better written than much of the chick lit I've read, with vivid characterization and few shallow clichés. I requested it because I was looking for something different, and this fit the bill.

Gwen's review of Predatory Game (GhostWalkers, Book 6) by Christine Feehan
Contemporary paranormal romance released by Jove 26 Feb 08
Lately, the Game series by Feehan has been my favorite writing of hers by far. The recent Carpathian books haven't been horrible - well, with perhaps the exception of Dark Celebration (blech) - but haven't been to the standard I expect from Feehan. These Game novels, though, have always been fun reads. This one stands out among them as being the best so far.
