Book CoverVeena’s review of Into the Whirlwind (BOSS Inc. Book 2) by Kat Martin
Romantic Suspense published by Zebra 31 May 16

I have read all of Ms. Martin’s books in this genre, even as she introduces new characters and changes the locale in which the story is based.  Clearly that is a testament to how much I am enjoying these fast-paced romantic thrillers that admirably fulfill my need for adventure balanced with passion and romance.

Dirk was previously Megan’s bodyguard during a modelling assignment where they spent some very pleasurable moments both in and out of bed. However, their affair came to an abrupt end when the danger to Megan passed because she did not believe he would be the right role model for her young son or the type of person she could introduce to her parents. She has some regrets about her actions but continues to soldier on, until her son is kidnapped and she reaches out to him for help.

It is so endearing to see how the entire BOSS team stands up for Dirk and gives Megan the cold shoulder. Despite how things had ended between them and how deeply involved Dirk had become, he is unable to walk away from her problems and resolves to find and rescue her son. His team might be unforgiving, but, nevertheless, they rally ’round to help Dirk find the little boy.

Of course, feelings don’t die and Megan and Dirk reconnect on the sexual side, even if they deny any softer feelings. Most importantly, Megan really comes to see how she might have been hasty in her earlier decision and made a mistake. They work the case but find their efforts are stymied at every turn and clues are few and far between. And, of course, the clock is ticking on the timeline they have to deliver the ransom. Megan’s parents and the rest of the folks at Boss Inc. make a great cast of characters, particularly as Dirk and Megan are able to bring her son safely back home against extremely adverse circumstances.

The author takes this opportunity to acquaint the reader with the chilling truth and motives behind the kidnapping and how far the danger is from being over yet for our protagonists. Of course, this makes for heart-pounding adventure which I am sure readers will enjoy reading. I certainly did.

As I said earlier, I truly enjoy these stories from Ms. Martin, but this one might be a favorite.

Grade: A
