Book CoverVeena’s review of To Love A Wolf (SWAT, Book 4) by Paige Tyler
Urban Fantasy published by Sourcebooks Casablanca 7 Jun 16

Three of the hunky werewolves who make the Dallas SWAT team have found their “one,” that perfect soulmate who completes them. Landry Cooper hasn’t quite drunk the Kool-Aid yet and is somewhat skeptical that he has a “one.” Then he’s in a crowded bank flirting with a beautiful girl when a bank robbery goes down and he finds himself losing control when the same beautiful girl is held hostage. However, our intrepid hero manages to disarm the bank robbers and save the girl. So is she the one for him?

Almost from the get-go the two are attracted to each other. In fact, Everly’s reactions to Landry are pretty extreme as she fixates on his beautiful golden eyes and his special scent, not to mention her overprotective family.  With how the story evolved, I was convinced that Everly would turn out to be a werewolf herself.  I’m not going to let the spoiler out of the box, so you’ll have to read the story to find out for yourself.

Landry is rewarded for his heroic actions by being suspended from active duty and requiring to complete a psychological evaluation. His therapy sessions are quite interesting, especially as he moves from outright hostility to cautious sharing. What has my antenna twitching is the shrink herself and her comments to Landry that seem to indicate she knows more than she’s letting on about her hunky hero and his fellow SWAT officers.  I hope to see more of her in future stories in the series.

As Landry and Everly race through their courtship steps, a meeting with the family definitely throws a wrench in their relationship. Her family are violently opposed to him and even resort to violence to keep him away from her. Apparently Everly’s mother was killed by an Omega wolf and they’re pretty clued into the werewolf phenomena, except they think all werewolves are nasty creatures and will do their utmost to keep their baby sister out of his clutches. Unfortunately for him, Everly’s reaction when she finds out about him does not bode well for a shared future.

In the meantime, there’s a terrorist loose in the Dallas area who’s using army ordnance to create bombs. Landry is working with the FBI in order to identify the bomb maker.  The fragments recovered from the last bombing have his werewolf instincts flaring and brings the situation pretty close to home.  The author brings together all her threads for an explosive finish, keeping the reader absorbed in the unfolding story.

This is a nice solid episode in the series. I am enjoying the author’s imagination and can’t wait to see where the series will go next.

Grade: B
