Review: The Touch of Twilight by Vicki Pettersson
July 1, 2008
Liviania's review of The Touch of Twilight (Sign of the Zodiac Book 3) by Vicki Pettersson
Urban fantasy released by EOS 27 May 08
I first encountered Vicki Pettersson in the anthology Holidays are Hell which included her intriguing short story "Harvest." I liked the protagonist and mythology presented and began to the Signs of the Zodiac series. In the third novel, The Touch of Twilight, a doppelganger is ripping apart the fabric of reality - and Joanna Archer may only be able to stop it with the help of her father.

Gwen's review of Blood Noir (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, Book 16) by Laurell K. Hamilton
Urban fantasy hardcover released by Berkley 27 May 08
I've heard people describe this book as "florid" and reviews using phrases like "growing sense of ennui". I agree and I disagree. Read on to find out where I depart ways with other reviewers and where I think they may have a point... At the end of this post, there's also a little bonus review of Hamilton's 5 June 2007 release, Strange Candy - a single author anthology. Read more

Shannon C.'s review of Dead Until Dark (Southern Vampire Series, Book 1) by Charlaine Harris
Urban fantasy published by Ace 1 May 01
I don't read very much urban fantasy, mostly because a lot of the ongoing series seem a little bit repetitive. But UF pops up all the time in my Librarything suggester, which informed me that I would love Dead Until Dark. The suggester wasn't wrong, though it wasn't entirely right either. Read more

Historical and contemporary paranormal romance anthology released by Kensington 1 Apr 08
This antho landed in my hands and I went, "Oooooo! Looks positively yummy!" I love a good paranormal antho - the plot moves along so quickly in those stories. This one was no disappointment, even if I wasn't a huge fan of all the stories. Read on to find out the whole skinny... Read more

Gwen's review of The Darkest Kiss (Riley Jensen, Book 6) by Keri Arthur
Urban fantasy released by Dell 29 Apr 08
I'm a Riley Jensen fan from "way back" - well, as far back as 2006, I suppose. I'm easy when it comes to urban fantasy, though. I'll read just about anything, as long as the characters are interesting, and I don't even need a happily ever after. This is why I'm a huge Lilith Saintcrow fan - LOVE me some Dante Valentine. I enjoyed the hell out of Kiss, too, and am seriously glad there's a Riley Jenson Book 7 on the horizon.

Review: Personal Demons by Stacia Kane

ShannonC's review of Personal Demons by Stacia Kane
Contemporary paranormal/urban fantasy romance released by Juno 1 Apr 08
I asked Stacia Kane for an ARC of her upcoming release, Personal Demons, because I read her blog and I've liked one of the books she wrote as December Quinn quite a lot. I didn't really know what I was getting into, so I didn't have much time to develop any preconceived notions about what the story would be about.

Urban fantasy is an interesting amalgam of genres: fantasy, horror, mystery and often, to a certain degree, romance. Being such a mishmash, Urban Fantasy authors only have the barest of constraints to play within. Some authors emphasize certain genre elements more than others, and this produces a happy variety amongst their books.

I know I'm not alone here. I know there are other Rachel Morgan fans out there. I know there are some former Rachel Morgan fans out there who wrote her off as being TSTL. I'm here to tell all of you, current and former, that RACHEL GETS A CLUE in this sixth entry in the series!! Yes!! Really! No seriously! I'm not kidding!
