Book CoverVeena’s review of Billionaire Without a Past (Irresistible Russian Tycoons, Book 3) by Carol Marinelli
Contemporary Romance published by Harlequin Presents 01 May 16

A dancer and a billionaire don’t normally have much in common, but, in this instance, they both have similar childhood traumas that they are dealing with in their very own unique way. Could that pave the way to true love and a shared future? Only time will tell…

Nikolai ran away from his childhood demons, never looking back. Now he’s a reclusive billionaire trying to keep himself safe by hiding away on his luxury yacht and avoiding his childhood friends. However, when he learns that one of his friends is in town and getting married, he’s unable to stay away.  He’s welcomed back into the fold as though he never left, and, even better, he meets Rachael, who causes his blood and other parts to stir.

Rachael is good at masking her troubles with a smile. Nikolai just breaks through all her barriers, and before she can say “Jack Robinson,” he’s in bed with her. They go through this dance with first one and then the other trying to walk away from what’s happening between them, but inevitably circumstances and their chemistry keeps bringing them back time after time.  As the two share their deepest, darkest secrets, they work their way to a future that neither imagined a short time ago.

I enjoyed the emotional intensity and, most particularly, Rachael’s growth in being able to share her pain and finally shed it and leave it behind, growing as a person and being able to stand up for herself. Nikolai finds his own freedom when he finds out that his friends have always known his dark secrets and love him and accept him unconditionally.

I enjoyed meeting the other Russian tycoons and find myself wanting to go back and read all their stories.

Grade:B

Summary:

When one night isn’t enough…

Nikolai Eristov lives by one rule: never look back. The inscrutable tycoon has buried his past so deep that, to the outside world, the only thing driving him is his personal chauffeur.

Until Nikolai meets elegant ballet dancer Rachel Cary at a wedding… Behind her practiced smile and innate sensuality, he glimpses a woman running from shadows as dark as his own.

One electric night together leads Nikolai to promise Rachel two weeks of exquisite pleasure. Except for the first time, this indomitable billionaire lied. Because two weeks isn’t nearly enough!
