Sandy M’s review of Ten Good Reasons (Sandy Cove, Book 2) by Lauren Christopher
Contemporary Romance published by Berkley 07 Apr 15
I’m very happy to say that this second book by Lauren Christopher, after her debut, The Red Bikini, is a terrific success. Sophomore books don’t always work, so I was a little wary when I started reading, but was hopeful at the same time, because I enjoyed the first book so much. This story is every bit as good as the first.
Workaholic Lia is on the fast track, and with success for an important client with her upcoming fishing boat bookings, she’ll have it made. Unfortunately, the friend whose future also rests on his being able to impress Lia’s client is laid up due to a motorcycle accident. This puts Lia in a frenetic search for a replacement captain, and she finds one in Drew’s brother, Evan.
Evan has been aimlessly circumnavigating the globe the last two years, trying to get over the grief and the guilt he’s carried since the tragic accident that changed everything. He’s only waiting for his boat to be repaired, and maybe trying to patch things up with Drew, and then he’s off again. But persistent Lia has him in the captain’s seat before he can say no for the umpteenth time, and once again his world begins to change.
I really enjoyed Evan and Lia together. They’re opposites in every way, and the more time they spend with each other, the more the rub off on one another. Lia’s slower pace makes her rethink her wants and dreams. Evan begins the painful process of forgiveness and living again. They also work very well together on the boat, giving customers entertaining and educational tours. Their rapport becomes natural and sexy, which then makes their changes much more believable, successful, and happy.
There’s a number of fun secondary characters, along with a couple you love to hate, and the scenes at sea are all well done. I did feel as though I was on those tours at times too. This has become a fun series, and I am definitely looking forward to the next book.
Summary:
Ten good reasons aren’t enough to keep them apart…
With a crazy eighty-hour-a-week job, an almost-boyfriend who’s left her for Bora Bora, and way too many terrible bridesmaid dresses in her future, Lia McCabe needs a change of pace before the imminent crush of the big 3-0.
First up, Lia is determined to help make sure her friend Drew’s whale-watching business takes off. But when an accident leaves him unable to man the boat, Lia’s only option is to convince Drew’s brooding, sexy brother to captain the ship (and save her butt).
For the last two years, Evan Betancourt has been sailing around the world to avoid the ghosts of his past. But when he pulls into Sandy Cove for a brief stop, Lia makes him an offer she won’t let him refuse.
And as these two opposites figure out how to work together, the murky waters between denial and attraction are creeping up fast…
