I am a bit disappointed with what I want to term these filler books in this series. By this time the regular readers are well aware of the intricacies of the plots between the various players, and this book, in my opinion, does nothing to advance the story line, except keep the readers treading water as the author launches a new series.
Thorn and Lexi are great characters. She’s fueled with revenge for her friend’s death and unwittingly comes to the attention of both the dark fae and the Dragon Kings, who are attempting to keep this corner of Scotland from being overrun by the dark. For all that they fall in love, Thorn has the resolve to take her memories and attempt to send her back to the US. Of course, that ploy fails and the rest is history.
Rhi’s story proceeds no further than it has so far, except she definitely takes a stand for the Dragon Kings against all the other characters, including the light fae. I am no longer tantalized by who her dragon king lover was and I feel that when the truth is revealed, it will be anticlimactic because of the buildup.
Con actually is the one character who emerges stronger in this story. While he’s the king of kings, some of his actions have not set well with some of the other kings. In this book he also takes a strong stance and, thus, comes out a stronger character for it.
Rhi has emerged as my favorite character in this series, and I am almost tired of watching her story go in circles. But it seems that she’s the one character who’s the tie-in between the warriors, the kings, and the newly launching reapers.
At the end it’s a well-written story which meets all the criteria for a good book in characters and plot, even if it’s a personal disappointment for me because I am impatient to get to the next step.
