Veena’s review of The Duke’s Guide to Correct Behavior (Dukes Behaving Badly Novel, Book 2) by Megan Frampton
Historical Romance published by Avon 25 Nov 14

I can’t recall what it was that I expected from the title of this book and the back blurb, but at the end it definitely did not deliver on the promise. I am sure the fault lies with me and my expectations. I think we’ve all grown to like our romance a bit more spicy and I definitely like a bit of action and adventure to make the story interesting.  This story is heavy on the dialog and light on any action, but it does in many ways remind me of classic historical romances which may appeal to readers of the genre.

I admire the fact that Lily, though born into the nobility, had no qualms about taking up a trade to earn her living when her father gambled away his patrimony and left her alone and destitute. Along with a couple of friends, she formed a domestic temp agency. When the summons from the Duke of Rutherford arrived and she had no staff she could dispatch, she rolled up her shirt sleeves and waded in to take up the position herself.

The Duke himself is an interesting character. He never expected to inherit his title and is still coming to terms with it. I find it interesting that he wishes to conform to what is expected of him, even if that means that he takes advantage of the loyalty of his household staff. Nevertheless, he to rises to the occasion when he unexpectedly finds out that he has a daughter who now has no one in her life but him.

As he strives to do his best by his daughter and indulge in his attraction to the new governess, the story moves at what I feel is a snail’s pace.  This book is just not for me, but, like I said earlier, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have an audience that it will appeal to.

Grade: C

Summary:

All of London knows the Duke of Rutherford has position and wealth. They also whisper that he’s dissolute, devilish, and determinedly unwed. So why, everyone is asking, has he hired a governess?

When Miss Lily Russell crosses the threshold of the Duke of Rutherford’s stylish townhouse, she knows she has come face to face with sensual danger. For this is no doting papa. Rather, his behavior is scandalous, and his reputation rightly earned. And his pursuit of her is nearly irresistible—but resist she must for the sake of her pupil.

As for the duke himself, it was bad enough when his unknown child landed on his doorstep. Now Lily, with her unassuming beauty, has aroused his most wicked fantasies—and, shockingly, his desire to change his wanton ways. He’s determined to become worthy of her, and so he asks for her help in correcting his behavior.

But Lily has a secret, one that, if it becomes known, could change everything…
