Veena’s review of Glimmer by Beth Kery
Contemporary Erotic Romance published by Berkley 05 May 15

Starting with the cover, this book captivated and ensnared me with its eclectic mix of sweet innocence, erotic sensuality, and brooding menace.  The gulf between prickly innocent Alice Reed and sophisticated billionaire Dylan Fall should be insurmountable and yet she forges an instant connection with him as electricity surges between them.

Alice Reed is a bright star in her very narrow firmament, but that’s about to change as her innovative research paper brings her to the attention of Durand, Inc. and its very charismatic CEO. Suddenly Alice is plucked from her safe and narrow environment and transplanted into Camp Durand, where she has to compete with a crop of bright but snooty ivy league graduates for a coveted job at Durand, Inc. To complicate matters, there’s this red-hot chemistry which sends her up in flames every time she comes into close proximity to the company CEO, Dylan Fall.

Alice’s innocence is irresistible to Dylan as he gently but firmly leads her into his world of sexual dominance.  While they’re both insatiable when it comes to each other, I do like that he takes the time to show her life outside the bedroom.  In the meanwhile, Alice is finding her feet as camp counselor for a group of inner city kids and helping to uncover their strengths as she connects them into a team.  I enjoyed her sessions with the young lady who reminds her of herself and yet terrifies her.

As the story progresses, it is clear there are secrets that seethe under the tranquil façade of the camp. Some are revealed and yet others remain hidden. At the end I was surprised at how quickly the story moved, and while it appears that Alice has lived a lifetime at Camp Durand, only a week has passed.  The story, of course, ends on a cliffhanger, and I am so disappointed that I have to wait all the way till December for the conclusion.

If I could hit the redo button, then I would probably have waited until both parts were out to read the entire story in one go.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great story, but I hate feeling like I’ve been left hanging in the middle. That’s why I was never very good at reading those serials which come out once a month.

Grade: B

Summary:

After graduating from her M.B.A. program, Alice Reed is surprised when she’s recruited for the management training experience at legendary Camp Durand, owned by Durand Inc.’s young, billionaire CEO, Dylan Fall. The company usually recruits from Ivy League schools, not insignificant colleges like Alice’s.

Alice enthusiastically accepts, but she still wonders why Dylan would choose a girl from the wrong side of the tracks for the prestigious program. But after a passionate encounter one night, she discovers exactly why—Dylan wants her, and Alice can hardly resist his fierce sexual appetites, though she is amazed that she could appeal to an experienced, sophisticated man like Dylan.

As Dylan introduces her to thrilling, erotic territory, Alice discovers a delicious new part of herself. Night after night, she steals away to find ecstasy and escape in Dylan’s arms. But behind her lover’s powerfully magnetic facade, Alice senses darkness, secrets from Dylan’s past lurking in his beautiful, lonely mansion—secrets that are starting to haunt Alice. And the ghosts of the truth might tear Dylan and Alice apart forever . . .
