Veena’s review of The Best Kind of Trouble (Hurley Boys, Book 1) by Lauren Dane
Contemporary Romance published by Harlequin HQN 26 Aug 14

I like the way Ms. Dane reels her readers in by starting a series and then bridging the one series into a new series and so on. In her last couple of books she brought in three of her series when she introduced Damien from the Sweet Hollow Ranch band at a Brown sibling wedding and gave him one of her characters from Bainbridge to sweetheart and now she’s launching a whole new series with Damien’s brothers and fellow band members. Delicious!

Patrick Hurley is a golden boy. All his life every thing has come easy to him until he finds Natalie in his hometown in Hood River. They’d met when they were young and stupid and had the most amazing sex and both of them happily went on with their lives. Natalie becomes meaningful to Paddy because she’s able to hold him off and for the first time he finds himself working at a relationship.

Natalie has her fair share of baggage and emotional wounds left over from her upbringing with an out-of-control-addict parent. She’s been able to come to terms with her past and has built herself a safe, secure life where she’s in complete control – until Paddy Hurley comes back into her life and threatens to break down her emotional walls. Also by virtue of being a member of a famous band, Patrick lives his life in the limelight. Can she take the pressure that his lifestyle is bound to place on them to create a happily ever after?

What I like about this series as is true of some of the other contemporary romances written by the author is how real and genuine the characters are. The Hurley brothers live life on the ranch where they were born and enjoy a close familial relationship with each other and with their families. Sure, they face challenges that are inherent with being a rock star and living life in the public eye and battling with excesses, etc. Despite all the fame and fortune, the characters make the emotional connect and got me vested in their life and emotional traumas that occur on their path to happily ever after.

I can’t wait to read Ezra and Tuesday’s story, because I just feel with each of their backgrounds and histories, this one is shaping up to be a very powerful story.

Grade: B

Summary:

She has complete control…and he’s determined to take it away

A librarian in the small town of Hood River, Natalie Clayton’s world is very nearly perfect. After a turbulent childhood and her once-wild ways, life is now under control. But trouble has a way of turning up unexpectedly—especially in the tall, charismatically sexy form of Paddy Hurley….

And Paddy is the kind of trouble that Natalie has a taste for.

Even after years of the rock-and-roll lifestyle, Paddy never forgot the two wickedly hot weeks he once shared with Natalie. Now he wants more…even if it means tempting Natalie and her iron-grip control. But there’s a fine line between well-behaved and misbehaved—and the only compromise is between the sheets!
