Sandy M’s review of Midnight Heat (Black Phoenix, Book 2) by Sarah Grimm
Contemporary Romance published by Sarah Grimm 2 Dec 14

This is not a book I received for review, but once I read it, I had to let you know about it. From the beginning the pacing and the emotion are quite high. I’ve not read Sarah Grimm before, but now I’d definitely like to try more of her books.

Right from the start when Dr. Rebecca Dahlman rushes into the ER when victims of a car crash come rolling in, the tone is set for the book. The author does a good job of keeping the tension high as the team works on an injured man. It’s when he’s revealed to be a member of the rock band Black Phoenix – and the man who left Rebecca behind years before – that you know you’re also in for a treat with twists and turns during this read.

Dominic Price, a sexy Brit who has a lot of groveling to do, is going to be just fine, because Rebecca says so and she knows her skills are up to the task of saving him. He’s returned to win Rebecca back, though she doesn’t know that yet. Realizing he made a huge mistake when left her, he’s ready to grab on to the woman who makes him whole, and that’s saying something because of his past. Found next to his dead mother’s body when just a child, Dom has never believed in “I Love You.” It’s just three words people spew when they want something from you. With his fame and wealth, he hears it quite a bit.

So you can imagine Rebecca’s pain when she said those words to him and they meant nothing. She thought she’d found what she’d been looking for, especially after not being able to please her parents her entire life. Though she’s not entirely happy at this stage, she’s content with her life and her job. Seeing Dominic again, however, and discovering what he wants from her isn’t the path she’d thought she be on once more. She’s been hurt before by this man and she’s not about to let it happen again.

Everything between them is as explosive as ever. I also enjoyed their getting to know one another again – Dom taking Rebecca to the recording studio, Rebecca taking him to meet her parents. Seeing how the other half lives is always eye opening, but in the long run it shouldn’t matter. I thoroughly enjoyed both of these characters.

Though it is the second book in the series, it reads as a standalone with no problem at all. I hope you check out Sarah Grimm and her books. I think you’ll agree they’re worth it.
