Today I almost poisoned myself. (Sounds dramatic, doesn’t it?) See, I have insomnia, and it was really bad today. I finally got up around 5 AM and went to get a drink of water – and to splash my face. I thought I had left some bottled water on the sink earlier, so I uncapped it and took a swig. It was a bit off, but I thought it was just lack of sleep that made the water taste a bit off/stale. You know how when you don’t sleep enough things can taste weird? So anyway, it started fizzing in my throat and I felt really uncomfortable, and so I went back, flipped on the light, and lo and behold I’d managed to drink hydrogen peroxide. I called poison control [which I had to go look up because the bottle didn’t have the number, and the nice woman told me I’d probably throw up, and my symptoms shouldn’t be prolonged. So it’s been about about 8-9 hours now and my fingers are crossed.] I seriously thought those bottles had poison control’s number on the label. But they don’t. |
It’s like the time I almost drank rubbing alcohol in college. But that burns as soon as you get it in your mouth. Peroxide only burns once you swallow it. I had some unfortunate college experiences – like the time the pilot went out on the stove so gas was leaking out for who knows how long… or the time I went on a cleaning frenzy with bleach and the fumes got to be too much so I had to flee my apartment….Proof positive that sleep deprivation does bad, bad things to you. ๐ Maybe that should have factored into the International Conventions on Torture conversations last week…So what incredibly stupid potentially dangerous thing did you do today? |
MORE IMPORTANTLY. I’m going to Seattle in about a week. I’ve never been before, and am slightly nervous. I’m also traveling by myself, sadly, and I’m not too apprehensive about it, but going cross country alone is never that fun.Still – it’s Seattle. I have to attend a conference/convention (or should) – but ought to have some free time as well. Therefore, I wanted to hit all of you up – any suggestions on where I should go? I will say that it’s the weekend of the OSU-M*ch*g*n game – one of the biggest, if not the biggest rivalry in sports. ( ๐ can you guess which side I’m rooting for?) So whatever time that game is, I’m going to the alumni bar to watch. If anyone wants to join me, I’d love the company :D. |
Umm… otherwise I’ve been spending too much money, and plan on putting myself on a spending moratorium come 09. (Have upgraded credit card with a 90 day period of double rewards. Who could resist?)
I’m also on the hunt for a (Nintendo) Wii Fit. Need to haunt Amazon for their return. As for books :\ sadly I’ve been uninspired for a while. I can’t seem to read anything cover to cover – I skim and flip through – but once I know what happens I get bored and don’t want to read all of it :X. I’m bad and can’t stand delayed gratification. Am looking for good book suggestions though. And also – I’ve been reading and re-reading chunks of my old favorites as comfort reads. I’m also avoiding all the other work I should be doing. Joy! |
So that’s my pondering and I’m sticking to it. How are all of you today, and for however many other days this is up? ๐ And – yes, I’m still here. And still lurves you all – life is just kicking my butt. I mean, see above. >.<
This pic? Do you really ever need a reason to have some eye candy?
Holy crap. Am glad you’re ok. You really need some sleep.
lol Hiiiii Jaci ๐
Yes… I do need sleep ๐ I plan on catching up over break. Will be dog sitting this gorgeous Great Pyr – and… am allergic to dogs ๐ so I’ll likely be taking a lot of Benadryl ยฎ.
And thanks. I’m glad I’m ok too. My uber kind family just laughed/brushed it off/asked why the hell I did it. >.< As if it were on purpose.
Hubby landed us a Wii Fit a couple weeks ago but I have to wait until the holidays to take it out of the box ๐
Jody – I’m jealous – but … maybe not *too* much since you have to wait. I “sat” on my wii for about a week, then couldn’t resist. I don’t know if I’d have the restraint to hold off until Christmas or around then. But -imagine all the fun you’ll have then!
Except for the trip you could be me. Except I haven’t ingested potential poisons before.
I did the bleach thing – used an entire 4 L of bleach while cleaning a room – I can’t handle the smell of bleach to this day and it’s make my throat get all gucky like when you get a bad cold.
When my dog got my sleeping pill I panicked and called Vet hospital and they told me to give him hydrogen peroxide to help him throw up. So I would have known something wasn’t too bad about swallowing it ๐ The dog never threw up and he didn’t have any kind of reaction to the drug like sleepiness or anything. It made me wonder if the pill was a placebo but that’s my own paranoia playing with me.
Also, we’re not on a spending freeze but we’ve been watching where everything goes and putting limits on what we’ll use credit for. I feel much better about our finances after 5 months of digging deep.
And finally, I can’t seem to finish much bookwise either. But I have a trillion reasons why and no one has that kind of time.
Cindys
Cindy – Thanks for stopping by! O_O 4 liters? That’s… haha- my goodness. Way more than I’ve ever used – my apartment in college was pretty small, granted. I don’t think I had the throat thing, but I got lightheaded and couldn’t breathe, which was enough for me.
As for the peroxide … curious. Your dog didn’t throw up? That’s…. hm. Haha – wasn”t he supposed to? Immediately? I figured it wouldn’t kill me or anything b/c I know you can use peroxide as mouthwash. And I’ve used it gads of times for cuts etc. Still though. Ingesting it is 10 kinds of different than topical treatment, and I would have appreciated a bit more sympathy from my family. Still don’t feel awesome. I don’t think your dog would’ve had any sort of horrid reaction to a sleeping pill [well depending on size] – I mean dogs get vicoden all the time for flights. (Of course it has to be administered by a vet so you get the right dosage for your dog.) Haha – but wondering about the pill does make sense.
It’s not so much … ask any of the other duckies or on Twitter, I think people believe I’m swimming in it. It’s… scary.
As for the reasons – yeah -I think life gets the best of all of us. I don’t even like thinking about all I have to do. Pretty sure my schedule cum task list could beat most people’s into submission :X [which is kinda fun in theory but not reality.]
Glad you’re ok. My mum went there a few months ago and loved it. She is a total history geek and enjoyed it even more than San Fran. ๐
Sarah – ๐ Thanks.
Oooo did she?? Where did she go? What did she do? What did she eat? ๐ Only I’m on a tight budget and the org was all fussy today about the cost [limited travel budget] so I might be eating granola bars and rice cakes all wknd. Pft. I am excited though! I think. lol. (Of course I should also check the conference schedule again…)
OMG, glad you’re okay, lucky it wasn’t something worse.
Oh the joys of waking up at 4 am, realising you’ve had all of 2 hours sleep and you’re buzzing!
Well I got a whole 4 1/2 hours last night, so I’m kinda awake, but yes, lack of sleep does awful things to you, and you’re sometimes not aware of it.
The bleach story, though, is awful. I’m so glad you’re okay!
Half of this post is hidden under the sidebar, I think. Weird.
Get thee to Seattle, lime. Work/School related or no, you need to get away, methinks. Wander the streets and breathe some hopefully not rainy air.
Never been to Seattle. I’ve watched Singles many times though. Good flick.
Pam – thanks. :\ My face is all swollen today… and I’m not sure why – go figure I have to get professional pictures taken today, with essentially a monkey. (He’s awful and these are retakes… with puffy face I’m seriously reconsidering it. Ugh).
Lynne- haha – I have no idea how I manage to do these things. As Sybs said, “only [me].”
Devon – Hm, for the sidebar, I’m… not seeing that. You mean when you look @ it in full? I do need to get away, but haha getting away is for school. >.<
I’ve never seen Singles- but I hear good things about Seattle. ๐
You should tour Theo Chocolate Factory (http://www.theochocolate.com/), the nations first organic & fair trade chocolate factory, tour Underground Seattle (http://www.undergroundtour.com/) so you can identify with the numerous novels set in the underground, and tour haunted Pike Place Market (http://www.seattleghost.com/). If it’s a nice day, taking a trip up the Space Needle is a classic tourist stop. If you like rock music, definitely check out the Experience Music Project at the foot of the needle.
Books to read: Marjorie M. Liu’s THE IRON HUNT, Mark Henry’s HAPPY HOUR OF THE DAMNED, Laurne Dane’s CASCADIA WOLVES series, and Lisa Cach’s BABES IN GHOSTLAND.
I live in Seattle, so drop me a note if you want more suggestions or want to meet up for coffee!
Ciara – yes! I got your tweet – I SO SO SO want to go – :\ but my only free time was 4 pm Thursday – I get in at 12:20 pm, so I could now try to make the 2 pm tour- but I have to be somewhere to volunteer by 4:30 – in business casual.
And… I don’t know how I’d get from SEATAC to my hotel – cab is $$ and bus takes 1 hr – it’d be cutting everything super close :\
If worse comes to worst MAYBE I can squeeze in a 2 pm tour on Saturday! (lol I’ll just ignore all conference events for me) ๐
STOP TELLING ME WONDERFUL THINGS TO DO THAT I CAN’T! Apparently I’ll be seeing Seattle Muni Court though ๐ Yay Moot Court competitions >.< [Right – b/c I’m actually going for a National Convention – I just had no problem with playing hooky – until I signed up to be a volunteer. Gah.]
You know – I might take you up on the coffee! I’ll probably want to run screaming mad from being with like a thousand lawyers/lawyer to be’s. ORRRRR you know you could get up “bright and early” and watch the Buckeyes with me on Saturday :D. You know you want to have an excuse to start drinking @ 9 am!
I’ll take the books into consideration. For some reason none of those jumped out at me when I first heard of them. i have no idea wtf I want. Gah.
