GUEST AUTHOR POST: The Doctor takes on a WARDen

Book CoverIf you have been a reader of the blog for a while, you no doubt are aware I am something of a fan of Jessica Bird, a.k.a. J.R. Ward. I happen to think the author is beyond cool. I was blown away by Dark Lover and still to this day am in love with that book as well as Lover Awakened. Hey... everyone has a favorite brother.

When it came time to for Lover Enshrined I thought it would be tres nifty to have her CP, the ever nifty Jessica Andersen do the interview... we got lucky (or they gave in so I would shut up), at the end of the interview you can read how YOU can get lucky *G*

Book CoverDr. Jessica Andersen, author of the newly released paranormal Nightkeepers, interviews J.R. Ward, otherwise known as the WARDen, author of the also newly released Lover Enshrined. Read on...

Hey Duckies, author Jessica Andersen here! I don’t know where you all are at, but here in the Northeastern USA it’s hot as blazes. Hello, early heat wave! In an effort to cool things down, I thought I’d keep it light today. I’m joined by my good buddy and critique partner, J.R. Ward, and we’re going to do a little quacking about her awesome new release, Lover Enshrined, the sixth book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

Jessica Andersen: Hey JR, dude. Thanks for agreeing to do this mini-interview!

J.R. Ward: Actually, thank you for doing it!

JA: Staying on that 'keep it light and cool’ theory, I thought we could do a 'these are a few of my favorite things' list… so here goes. As always in the BDB books, Lover the_plague-1898-by-bocklin.jpgEnshrined has got a ton of great zingers and one-liners among the characters. What’s your favorite line in the book, and why?

JRW: Man, there are a number of them! I think my fav is when Wrath is explaining to John Matthew that the last time Lassiter, the fallen angel, was on the planet there was a plague in central Europe. Lassiter's response: "Okay, that was SO not my fault."

JA: Building on that idea, what’s your favorite scene in Lover Enshrined?

JRW: Lemme think… the one with John Matthew on page 497 (I'm quoting the page to avoid a spoiler) just tore at my heart, in a good way and a bad way. I also like the one with Phury on page 492… that was just a great scene (it's the one where he emerges from the Scribe Virgin's private quarters.) That one also leads up to my favorite line in the book: "He finally felt like the hero he had always wanted to be." But my absolute favorite scene… was the one at the end when Z comes to Phury, with the Brotherhood. Got me all teary when I wrote it to be honest. It was so great to see the twins reunited and the Brothers all together… and yeah, that's my fav.

JA: Thinking of the series as a whole, which of the book covers is your favorite, and why?

JRW: You know, I like them all but I think Dark Lover is my favorite. I love the red and the black, plus it was the first one and set the standard for them all. So, yeah, have to go with the king on that one!

JA: Okay, shifting the topic slightly, what’s the funniest thing a fan ever asked you, either online or during a public appearance?

JRW: Actually, I'd have to say it wasn't a question, but how a question was raised. This lovely woman who always attends the Cincinnati signings, lifted her hand up to her face, putting it on her forehead (to indicate she had something to ask). The thing was, she had her fingers orientated so that it put a loser sign on her forehead as she looked up at me. I busted out laughing and was like, are you losering me at my own signing?! Of course everyone cracked up- she tupacs-back.jpghandled it very well, though. And she's still coming to the signings!

JA: What was your favorite song (or songs) to listen to while you were writing Phury? Did you mainline the opera, or was the soundtrack straight up ZeroSum fare, or…?

JRW: Huh… well, I listened to opera a lot, yes. But as always there was rap and hip hop in my ears while I ran during the writing of the book. And when I run I plan a lot so even Phury was touched by the likes of Fifty and Pac and Kanye and Lil Jon and Jay-Z…

JA: When you’re treating yourself, what’s the treat? Chocolate? Massage? White water rafting?

JRW: Right now? Breyers vanilla and coffee ice cream!

JA: And now for the lightning round… please answer the following with a word or phrase only, no explanations:

Favorite DVD? "The Office", any season

breyers-coffee-ice-cream.jpgFavorite guilty pleasure on TV? "Flavor of Love", any season

Favorite guilty pleasure in the fridge? Ice cream, see above

Favorite word for the Chicago Manual of Style? Okay that's a trick question! LOLOLOL geeee I'd have to go with c***sucker.

JA: And finally, what is your favorite recent release about the Mayan 2012 doomsday and the men and women who are bound to protect us from the apocalypse?

JRW: OMG, it's totally Nightkeepers by Jessica Andersen! Have you ever heard of her? Fabulous writer, wicked sense of humor… and excels at fondue. You.are.welcome.

JA: And there you have it, Duckies! Straight from the WARDen herself, a little light fun on a hot day.

So how about you… got any favorites off the list that you’d like to share? Or do you have a question for J.R. Ward? Hit us... all the comments will be entered to win a *COMPLETE SIGNED SET* of the brotherhood to date from JR Ward.

Thank you WARDen for Phury! Honestly, I didn't think I would make it to his release ( I spoke of it so much everyone around me was ready to kill me ) and once again you usurp my expectations and graciously provide us with a wonderful story! I am so very excited for the Compendium, you have no idea! I have to say that you really are my favorite author and I get the biggest rush after reading one of your new books and then getting all of my friends to read it as well.

    My questions:

Does the Scribe Version know about Lash, and if so can she tell anyone?

Will we ever get to meet Phury and Cormia's son?

Does Uncle Rehv visit Nalla ever?

Are Phury and Cormia Nalla's God parents?

Thank you and have a great day!

  2. Becky Jean on June 10th, 2008 12:19 pm

And yes, I am holed up in my house in upstate NY (Rochester) because it is SOOOOO HOT! So I totally feel your pain Dr. Andersen!

Stay cool, and just remember to think about ice! ALOT of ice!

  3. CourtneyCarroll on June 10th, 2008 12:19 pm

Again, loved, loved, loved LEn J.R. Another great book in the series. Can't wait for Rehvenge!!!

  4. RubyRed on June 10th, 2008 12:22 pm

WARDen! Babe, you blow my mind with everything you write. Are you SURE you can't just jump straight to John Matthew's book? The wait is KILLING me. Okay, so I'm a touch obsessed with John Boy. I'm dealing with it. *sigh*

    MUAH!

  5. Ivette on June 10th, 2008 12:22 pm

I absolutely love the BDB series and I thank the heavens that you wrote them because I don't know what I would do if I've never read this wonderful series.

How did you get started at writing the BDB series?

How many BDB books to you plan on writing or are you just going with the flow and don't know for certain how many books you will write?

  6. PhoenixRising Lyric on June 10th, 2008 12:23 pm

    Love ya, WARDen!

Phury was phabulous, far exceeding my highest expectations. Thank you for him!

Can't wait for Rhev- and Quinn & Blay...

Can we have a VII (mark 2)? Pretty please with cheese on top?

    MUAH!

My daughter and I have fallen completely for Qhuinn. Does he get his own book and how far down the shute is it?

  8. Joie_De_Vivre on June 10th, 2008 12:24 pm

I LOVED LEn! It seemed to me like I'd waited forever for Phury's story, and I was not disappointed. Can't, can't, CAN'T wait for Rehv next May!

    ((JRW))

  9. LindaK on June 10th, 2008 12:24 pm

I just love this series. LEn was fantastic as always. You leave me craving more with every story. But I do have a question.

What did Qhuinn see on the door when he almost went into the Fade? It's making me crazy.

  10. SarahT on June 10th, 2008 12:25 pm

    Yay for fun interviews!

I have to say, JR, that you have the distinguished honor of being the only person to ever make me CRY ON THE TRAIN. I'm sitting finishing up LEn on my commute and the Z scene at the end hits. Now, Z being one of my favs anyway, and the voice. *sigh* You rock!

Thanks for another fantastic book! Can't wait for Rehv!

  11. ToLee on June 10th, 2008 12:25 pm

Love the series Ms.J.R. Ward, also love the Nightkeepers as well. I count down the days till the BDB come out.

Woohoo! Another chat. I'm SUPPOSE to be working...oh well..haha :) Oh...and I know for SURE that your a cool person. THE OFFICE IS MY FAVORITE TV SHOW! "Thats what she said." lol

Hi JR! :) Who is your favorite brother and why?

  13. Sara on June 10th, 2008 12:26 pm

    Hi WARDen,
I loved, loved, loved LE as well as all the others. My question is are we going to see any of the other brothers as dad's or is it just Z for now? I personally would love to see Wrath as a father! Gotta love Wrath!!!

  14. VickiH on June 10th, 2008 12:27 pm

I love this series, and can't wait to read Nightkeepers!

  15. Sarah on June 10th, 2008 12:27 pm

    Thanks for the wonderful interview!

Can you tell us anything exciting about the upcoming BDB compendium?

Also, I know this is supposed to be all BDB questions, but any word on your Jessica Bird books?

Thanks again! I can't believe I have to wait so long for another new BDB book.

  16. Casey on June 10th, 2008 12:28 pm

I love the brotherhood and can't wait to read about Rev. Keep them coming.

  17. Melissa on June 10th, 2008 12:28 pm

Thanks JR for the BDB. My husband thinks that I am nuts when I start to tear up during certain parts of the books. You always leave me wanting more, more,MORE!!!! Can't wait for the next book!
    Love YA

  18. Kiki on June 10th, 2008 12:29 pm

OMG! Your answer to the funniest question had me in stitches! The poor lady. LOL! Too funny!

    Great interview, ladies. Very entertaining!

Quick question...will V ever find out that Lash is his cousin?

  19. Tammy on June 10th, 2008 12:30 pm

Loved LE, just like I've loved the rest.

Just one question and it's a spoiler - Will John Matthew and Xhex end up together or do they have different mates?

  20. Susan Renee on June 10th, 2008 12:31 pm

I'm nearly finished with Phury's book and am enjoying it :) Loved the interactions between Wrath/Quinn, the 'new troika' of Blay/Quinn/JM and Phury/Z :)

    My questions are:

We do not get to really see Mary and Marissa in this book. I can see why b/c of the flow of the storyline, but I would love to see more of them in the future. Do you know when that may be happening? I would love to read a scene where Phury and Mary adopt a young.

In the last book Marissa was having computer probs at her safe house. We know you write nothing without a reason so when will you reveal what going on with that?

  21. Christine on June 10th, 2008 12:31 pm

That Lassiter line was also one of my favorite lines. I loved it!

I also liked when Rehv said something like, "Whoa, turn it down G.E." LOL Classic.

Two other lines that were my favorites were not spoken: one was signed (Chapter 20 Qhuinn to JM in the back of the car), and one was written in a note (Chapter 55 JM to Xhex).

  22. Kim on June 10th, 2008 12:32 pm

I absolutely love the whole "Lover" series, but I couldn't wait until Phury's story came out and I was not disppointed. I eagerly await each new addition to the "Brotherhood". Thank you, J.R., for investing so much in these characters and stories, it is a series I will go back to reread again for a long time to come.

  23. Lisa Yvette on June 10th, 2008 12:33 pm

OMG I just finished LEn and I have to say I cannot WAIT for Rhev and Tohr's stories to come out! I love me some tortured heroes and so far the Brotherhood has delivered in SPADES!

  24. Sarah Lyons on June 10th, 2008 12:33 pm

I so loved Phury but I am so looking forward to Rehvenge. He is the one book after Zsadist I have really been gagging to read I mean he is so hot. Mohawk Sable coat and MMMmmm you know what I mean. Is there anything you can tell us just to keep me going to Jan 09.

  25. MerryMey on June 10th, 2008 12:34 pm

Hi Warden! And Hi Doc Jess!

Just finished LEn and I'm reading Nightkeepers right now. Thank you both so much for your wonderful contributions to the romantic genre!

I have a question for you Warden. Actually, it's my mother's question. We are really excited about seeing Nalla! Do you see any of the other brothers becomming parents any time soon and if so, which ones?

    Thanks a bunch! MerryMey

And, Flavor of Love?? Never would've guessed!

  29. Ariel on June 10th, 2008 12:34 pm

Thank you WARDen for these Brothers! I have to agree that Wrath is my favorite cover and one of my favorite Brothers; he IS the King. I think Butch is a top favorite of mine b/c his is the first book I read of the series--I had no idea what I picked up when I got that yummy story.

  30. Vicky Steele on June 10th, 2008 12:35 pm

  32. Lora on June 10th, 2008 12:37 pm

    Thanks for the great Q & A!!

Couple of quick questions for you. When can we expect to see Rev's book? Are you planning to be at the RWA in San Francisco this summer?

I love the BDB series. I have recommended to to so many people and the response is always OMG I LOVE THEM!!

    Lora :)

  33. Anya on June 10th, 2008 12:37 pm

    Aloha WARDen,
Thank you so much for the world you have created! Your ending to Lover Enshrined was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!! Totally enjoyed your interview. Will there ever be a physical smackdown between the Scribe Virgin and the Omega? Will we find out who their parents are? Do you plan a book for Lassiter? :)Please never stop writing!!
    Aloha, Anya

  34. Sharon on June 10th, 2008 12:37 pm

I thought Z singing to Phury at the end with the rest of the Brothers was the best scene ever in this book and I was happy to hear that The Warden feels the same way! Love a good ending!

  35. Debra M. Stevenson on June 10th, 2008 12:37 pm

    Hello WARDen & Doc Jess,

I, of course, am a BDB FANatic from the word GO! However, I just finished "Night Keepers" and I think I have another series I could get lost in.

The writing is very similar to what I have come to expect from JR WARD, witty & stylish with an urban flavor.

I love to read, and I really love that the two of you are giving me something really cool to enjoy.

Take care, and keep 'em comin'.

    Debra M. Stevenson

  36. cwhang on June 10th, 2008 12:38 pm

Loved loved loved Phury's story! Thank you JR, for this wonderful series!

  37. Kerry on June 10th, 2008 12:41 pm

    Hello WARDen

First I love all the books. I have to fight my daughter and my sister off of them.

Second Just love them sh*t kickers they wear. I have been looking for myself a pair and not really finding what I want, but I will.

Third Can you make some life size posters of the brothers and send them my way. This way I can just scan the room and never have to leave again.

  38. Elizabeth on June 10th, 2008 12:43 pm

Great story as always, WARDen!! You never disappoint me! I'm really looking forward to the Compendium with that Short Story you promised. THANKS!!!

  39. Lorraine on June 10th, 2008 12:45 pm

LEn - another belter, JR! Made me cross-eyed reading it in one sitting, then of course had to go back and read it again, picking up what I missed on the first skim...
Which then makes me go back to the beginning of the series and work on wearing out the copies!
Thanks for creating this wonderful, enthralling world - one question, though, maybe its a non-US thing, but the abbreviations are totally puzzling to me, could we perhaps have a Glossary of Abbreviations for we unenlightened ones???
Another year 'til we get our hands on Rhev - how will we cope?

    Best Wishes from "Bonnie Scotland,"
    Lorraine

  40. cynthia newell on June 10th, 2008 12:45 pm

Warden: I would do just about anything to get a signed set of BDB!! OMG...These are mine and my hellren's FAVS! WE even got BDB tattoos. I can't wait for the next one.

  41. Mary Murphy on June 10th, 2008 12:46 pm

You are the best!! Always. I loved Phury...
Just one question. Will John Matthew be a virgin until he meets his mate?

  42. Jessica Andersen on June 10th, 2008 12:46 pm

I won't speak for the WARDen ('cause she doesn't get mad, she gets even ), but to those of you who gave me a shout out, thanks very much, and HEY!

Becky Jean- dude, I was writing yesterday with an ice pack on the back of my neck, just trying to keep the temp down. Stay cool yourself!

ToLee, MerrryMey, Vicky Steele and Debra- thanks for the props on Nightkeepers, happy you enjoyed the read!

    VikiH- hope you like it!

And to all- thanks for checking out the interview- we had fun with it :)

  43. Jill Shepherd on June 10th, 2008 12:47 pm

WOW, I learned all sorts of new things about you!

Coffee ice cream---DUH! I could have guessed that!
The Office ---- figures, one of my favs too
Favorite cuss word---- could have been anyone of them, you use all of them equally well : )
Guilty pleasure---- WOW, never saw that coming. I will write it off to morbid curiosity!

This was a great interview! You rock, as always.

    Love you baby!!
    Your JM

  44. Jeannine on June 10th, 2008 12:48 pm

Absolutely fantastic book!! I loved seeing how everyone is growing in each book. With a series, I think it's all about growth. I say bring on the war, can't wait to read it. Lash....G-Dang never saw it coming, best jaw dropping turn of events ever!

  45. Stephanie H. on June 10th, 2008 12:48 pm

These books are incredible! This series is on my "must buy" list. Now, if only I had a Brother of my own....

  46. Cyb on June 10th, 2008 12:48 pm

Love the books. Everybody got their favorites and mine are Mary and Rhage. I am missing them in the books. Any chance we will be seeing more of them?

  47. Becky on June 10th, 2008 12:49 pm

    Hi JR,

I heard that Rhev's book will not be out until May 09 - will all the books from this point forward be about a year apart?

Love, Love, Love all the books
    B

  48. Brenda Maldonado on June 10th, 2008 12:50 pm

    WARDen,

I must say reading Lover Enshrined was a treat. Until now, Rehv just wasn't IT for me, you know? Thanks to LEn I am So feeling Rehv now. Can't wait for his book! ...Qhuinn ...Blay. Yum! Thank you for writing stories with such great males.

  49. Mileena on June 10th, 2008 12:52 pm

    Another delightful interview!

So, now I've got to go get Nightkeepers and see what it's all about...which is good because I've now read LEn three times, and though I loved it more each time, I'm gonna go rabid with waiting for the next JR Ward book! Yay Compendium!

Here's to you, WARDen, and congratulations on another splendid novel!

Thank you so much, Mileena :)

  50. cindy c. on June 10th, 2008 12:52 pm

    Hi Warden,
Can you tell us how old JM, Blay and Quinn are? Also,
Who is Princess? And how does she come into play with Rehv? Will Mary and the King have children soon?

  51. Christy on June 10th, 2008 12:53 pm

Loved LEn and love those questions and answers Doc Jess and J.R.!

  52. robyn on June 10th, 2008 12:54 pm

    Hey WARDen!!!

i absolutely love the BDB series...and i really like Phury and Cormias story...and i just wanted to say that you are an amazing author!!! :D

i have a question that i have been wanting to ask you since LEn came out...

so i must say that i wasnt much of a fan of Rehv…but after reading LEn… i am hooked on him and i can’t wait for his story…what i want to know is will we see him acting as Uncle Rehv to Nalla in his book? will we get to see his soft side when hes with her?

  53. amanda on June 10th, 2008 12:55 pm

I LOVED LE. the twins have always been my favorite but I must say that John is right there with them.
I have 2 question which i am sure you have already answered numerous times.
Which brother/book is your favorite? ( i know its like picking your favorite child and you should never favor one child over the other but you know it happens anyway :) )

And who's book are you most looking forward to writing next?

I LOVE the books and can't wait for the next one so please keep them coming.

  54. Sybil on June 10th, 2008 12:56 pm

I had to ask when or if I was getting my mitts on the Compendium soon. And YAY! But until I do....

What should we expect from it? Did you do all the writing for it? If I recall correctly... didn't you say something about a novella or so in it? :)

AND can you tell us a lil about January's book? I know it is hardcover and about my current favorite pimp (cuz omg there are so many romantic hero's that are pimps you know *eg*). But... anything else? throw us a bone....

Another thing I have been wondering is you seem to be moving more and more from Paranormal Romance toward Urban Fiction. Is that something that surprised you or you knew along would happen?

  55. Ilona on June 10th, 2008 12:59 pm

Lovely interview ladies. I have a question for JR and that is
How and why did you decide to add the 'h' into the names? I know a lot of people seem to find it irritating but I personally find it more intriguing and have wondered why and how :D

  56. Janis S. on June 10th, 2008 1:00 pm

    J.R.

    Absolutely my favorite series!

I loved the scene between Qhuinn & Blaylock when he told Blaylock how he felt about him and the "you know what" happened. It made me cry.

I've always thought it must be hard on an author when it takes you months and months to write a book and the readers devour it in hours and start demanding more! But, that won't stop me from saying I'm ready for the next one!

    Best wishes!

  57. Bea on June 10th, 2008 1:02 pm

    Hi from far away:-).
My favorite books of the series are the first 3, I really LOVE them(and they are very worn of all my repeated reading:-). Lover enshrined was good(actually I liked the scenes between JM and Cormia, lol) and I cannot wait for the next book(s)!!!

  58. Christina Craveiro on June 10th, 2008 1:03 pm

Hey WARDen! GREAT job with Phury's story. Thank you for curing my withdrawal from the brotherhood for about a week *grin*. Then again, I keep re-reading them all any way so never a true withdrawal. This is truly the best storyline ever. Phury has always held a special place in my heart too, so reading his story was worth waiting for. Rock on sister and keep our Brotherhood's story coming!

From the wilds of Maine where your books help me endure the wretched winters :-)

  59. Sheri on June 10th, 2008 1:04 pm

    Hey JR....fun interview!!

The Lassiter quote was funny but I loved Butch's Coppertone line as well. Butch gets all the best one liners!!

Loved LEn...can't wait for the compendium. And Doc Jess...I've got Nightkeepers on it's way...if FedEx can ever get their act together and find my house! LOL!!

Thanks much to both of you!

  60. Droushie on June 10th, 2008 1:04 pm

I just love all your books, WARDen, but I think I might have to buy stock in Kleenex and an Xlrg freezer or an ice machine...MAN!! They keep getting better, but Z is my boy. Love that male =)

DocJess..WoW!!! NightKeepers was Awesome!!!! Cant wait for the next one, I just added it to my amazon pre-order list with the WARDen's Compendium =)

  61. marielle dagenais on June 10th, 2008 1:05 pm

thank you Warden for your book i must say that i do like them but my favorite was the first three
i have a question for you : why is there a glossary infront of the book and nothing on the acronyms that you use in the book?

cuz for a french speaking person for whom english is a second language those acronyms are sometimes tricky is all am saying,

  62. J.R. Ward on June 10th, 2008 1:06 pm

Hi! First of all, thank you to Sybil and all the folks here at The Good The Bad and The Unread for having me. I always have such a great time and Doc Jess and I had a BLAST doing this interview!

Becky Jean- The vampire culture doesn't have 'God-parents' so to speak but yes, I guess you could say that Phury and Cormia are the equivalent. As for the other questions? *clears throat* KEEEEEEEEEEEEEP REEEEEEEEEEEEADING! ;)

((((CC)))) Thank you so much, Baby Girl!

RubyRed- JM is going to be SO worth the wait! Trust. Me. MUAH!

Ivette- Right now the series is open-ended and God-willing there will be many more stories to come!

Hi Jens! Qhuinn has got a lot of stuff to do before he gets his own story so KEEEEEEEEEP REEEEEEEEEADING!

Man, You guys have gotten TWO already! LOLOLOL

  63. Cye on June 10th, 2008 1:08 pm

    Hello ladies!

I finished Lover Enshrined Thursday night and I'm still trying to process the events and moments of this incredible book. I love the Brothers and this series is my absolute favorite. I would save these books from a fire! (After I grabbed the hubby of course)

I'm in the process of reading The Night Keepers and I'm super excited about how much I'm loving it! Kudos Doc Jess ;-)

Just comments from me...with lots and lots of love...and thanks of course!
    Cye

  64. Catherine on June 10th, 2008 1:09 pm

Just have to say I love these guys and hope they never stop talking to you!

Give V a big hug for me!

    Catherine

  65. Mandy on June 10th, 2008 1:10 pm

Hi Warden, love the interview and of course I LOVE the books. I have pimped the brother so many times all my friends keep calling me asking me if I'm done yet and when can we all get together to dish about the book. "Of course I'm done!! We can dish anytime."

  66. Raven on June 10th, 2008 1:11 pm

I have read this entire series FOUR times, waiting for Phury!
I finished his book in one night - as with all of your books!
    Yes...I'm a hopeless addict!

My question here is just how far is NY allowing you to take this series?
Eternity would be nice, *wink* but thats not always how they play.

And second question, or rather a plea! - PLEASE don't let these characters fall into the hands of television production without FULL control! I couldn't handle the devastation!!! *weeping*

  67. Pam on June 10th, 2008 1:12 pm

Thank you so much for this wonderful world of the Brotherhood. I really enjoyed LEn even more than I anticipated. I love the brotherhood but Phury has never been one of my favorites. I still don't love him, but I really appreciate the way this story unfolded and his oh, so importance to evolving world of the BDB. Now I'm really looking forward to learning more about the smpath society. Please keep them coming.... every book just adds to my admiration expotentially. After reading each book I love the BDB more whether the main characters are my favorites, or not. Each book advances the story and for that I am grateful! Thank you, again for sharing this wonderful world with us.

  68. Yvonne/Shady on June 10th, 2008 1:12 pm

I can only say (outside of it being a nice interview :)) that I enjoy the series very much - keeps improving with each book.

  69. Laurie on June 10th, 2008 1:13 pm

Hey, Warden, great interview as usual :) LOved Phury, JM/Blay/Qhuinn (OH, especially Blay and Qhuinn!!!!) Also can't get enough of Rehv. Thanks for the tip on the Nightkeepers series, always looking for something new!

Soooo...I'll probably get a KR on this, but I was wondering, now that you've revealed Rehvs mate's identity, can you tell us if she has any sympath blood, or is she pure vampire?

    Thanks so much!

  70. Bianka on June 10th, 2008 1:14 pm

I love your books, you're a great writer. Keep up the good work... Can't wait for the next fix...LOL I'm an addicted to your books.

  71. M. Ferrell on June 10th, 2008 1:15 pm

I have a really big Vampire fettish and these books help my addiction. They are so real I get lost in the books and then when I'm done, I'm left wanting more. The last book, LEn, was so action packed and so much happening, it was AWESOME! Thank you so much for helping me to support my habit. ^_^

  72. Liz on June 10th, 2008 1:16 pm

Man I so anticapting Rhevenge now. 11 months to go. And are you releasing the Cermony in book form? Would so love a copy :)

  73. J.R. Ward on June 10th, 2008 1:17 pm

(((((Joie_De_Vivre Linda K SarahT & ToLee)))) Thank you so much and I'm so glad you liked Phury!

songlessrobin- I LOVE The Office! I swear I could watch that show for hours and hours on end!

I love all the Brothers, but I have to say that I will always hold a very special place in my heart for Zsadist.

Sara- KEEEEEEEEEEEEEP REEEEEEEADING on that! ;)

Vicki- Nightkeepers is AWESOME! You're gonna love it!

  74. MEGAN on June 10th, 2008 1:18 pm

I LOVE THE BOOKS, I just finished Lover Enshrined and cant wait for Rhevs book. I loved all the things in the book ,but i can't wait to see if Butch gets to take Lash out.

    keep up the Great work

  75. Lori on June 10th, 2008 1:20 pm

Just a tidbit, "Dark Lover" caught my eye one day. After I finished it I ran out and bought the next three, Vishous came out soon after. I let one of my co-worker read an excerpt from LE and she was hooked. She read DL and it was passed on to another co-worker, then another, then another, took off like wild fire. The BDB is all the buzz on the floor I work on at our local Hospital. I thought it was cool that I could share my addiction for these books with the girls at work. Oh, bye the way, I absolutely loved LEn. YOU ROCK!!!!!

  76. MelaBanks on June 10th, 2008 1:20 pm

Hey WARDen!! I was very pleased with LEn. And I can't wait to meet you tomorrow!!

  77. Susan on June 10th, 2008 1:22 pm

I love the series and am looking forward to LEn as soon as my brat of a sister finishes with it. Hadn't heard of the Nightkeepers, but will definitely look the series up.

  78. CourtneyCarroll on June 10th, 2008 1:23 pm

BTW Jessica Anderson: Suzanne Brockmann was raving about your book on her BB. : )

  79. CourtneyLee on June 10th, 2008 1:24 pm

JR, as I have said before, I loved Lover Enshrined. I was wondering about the logistics of the Chosen being on This Side: who do they feed from? Or do they just pop back to the Other Side and get replenished?

Also, as Phury gets to know them individually, is he becoming good friends with them, confidantes and buddies, or is he maintaining some distance? I love the idea of him as a big brother to them, someone who will love them, protect them, and want what is best for them.

And Doc Jess, you know this already 'cause I'm on your message board, but Nightkeepers was awesome! Can't wait for Dawnkeepers. :D

P.S: WARDen, thanks for spilling the beans on Rehv's mate. Can we get an itty bitty tidbit, like her favorite hobby or if she already has her eye on a certain amethyst-eyed male? :D

  80. VENTRUE on June 10th, 2008 1:24 pm

    *waves* Hi WARDen!!! Hi DocJess!!!

This is for both of you. Do you guys have a favorite HEA that you gauge all current- and to-be-written-HEAs against? And if so, whose HEA is it?

WARDen - you know I've got mad love for ya. Thank you for the gift that is LEn.

DocJess - I quite literally finished NK this very moment. OMGGGGGGGG!!!! Fast-paced, heart-wrenching, with a karmically-balanced ending... I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED IT!!! Can't wait for the next installment!

  81. Greta on June 10th, 2008 1:27 pm

Okay, I'll admit this. I was a Jessica Andersen fan first. I have read all of her Intrigues. When I read that she was coming out with a single title Night Keepers I new I had to get it. I'm reading it now and enjoying it very much.

So I did a little more re-search on Jessica Andersen and found out that she and Jessica Bird/JR Ward were CP. So then I became interested in Jessica Bird/JR Ward. I bought Dark Lover it's in my TBR file and I've also found two of Jessica's SSE's. Her very first one and her last one.

I would like to know how did you two meet. Is there a site where fans could find both of you together?

  82. blustarwitch on June 10th, 2008 1:34 pm

    Love, love, loved the book!!!!

Wrath blew my mind. He is the greatest. Loved The Boys and Cormia!
Their growth and changes in the book were great.

  83. PurpleBlade on June 10th, 2008 1:35 pm

I love the Brotherhood - is there really much else to say?
But I must admit that Vishous is by far my favorite!

  84. J.R. Ward on June 10th, 2008 1:35 pm

For all those that are asking about the Compendium, it's coming out in October of this year. It's filled with all new interviews with the Brothers, a short *cough*124 page*cough* story wit Z, Bella, and Nalla, dossiers on all the Brothers, and much more! I really hope readers enjoy it!

It's my JM! (((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))) So glad you stopped by!

Lorraine- I wouldn't leave you hanging! There's actually a glossary of abbreviations in the Compendium.

Lora- Rehv is coming out in May of 2009. Unfortunately I won't be out in San Fran this year for RWA because I suck and won't get on a plane. :( But I hopefully will be attending RWA next year!

Cindy- JM, Qhuinn, and Blay are just transitioned so they are in their mid twenties? As for the other two questions- KEEEEEEEEP REEEEEEEEADING!

  85. Sara on June 10th, 2008 1:37 pm

I figured on that but thought maybe there could be a hint ;)

  86. hex2late on June 10th, 2008 1:37 pm

The line when Z tells Phury "Get off the cross someone else needs the wood.

I thought that just about summed up how low Phury had sunk. He was bottoming and didn't know it. Phury had become whiny and self-pitying and poor me.

In the end JR salvaged this twin and made me love him, because he had truly become the hero that he had always been and was meant to be.

Did I mention I loved this book?

Especially, Qhuinn/Blaylock, JM/Xhex. I can't wait to read about Rehv and his HEA. I am looking forward to more on the symphath and on Lassiter and how he fits in with the Brothers.

My question is can we expect to see any births for any of the other brothers? I'd love to see the King with his young.

Keep Writing and I'll Keep Reading.

  87. RowanHastings on June 10th, 2008 1:37 pm

    Hi WARDen!

Again another wonderful interview! Props for creating one of the BEST paranormal series I have ever had the pleasure to read!

My question: Are you planning any signing dates in Canada for the near future? You have a ton of fans north of the border as well!!

And to Doc Jess, Nightkeepers is next on my list of TBR!!

    Thanks again WARDen!

  88. Stephanie R on June 10th, 2008 1:37 pm

Love, love, love the series. Loved, loved, loved, LEn.

That's all and thanks for sharing your stories with us all!

  89. Vicki on June 10th, 2008 1:39 pm

I read LE in two days, it could easily have been in one, but had to do some fam stuff. The problem was I knew I would be sad when it was finished. It's like a drug, my very own little wizard dude, walking in my head, telling me, you'll be sorry if you finish it too soon, but you can't put it down, now can you.

Truly, I love them all. Loved what you did with this book as well. So many things happened to lead to so many more things coming.

It occured to me, although Lash is what Lash is, there is still the little part of him, that feels. It's small, but it's there. Makes me wonder, what will happen with that. And when he and John really confront each other, what will he feel?

Can't wait to see you in SF!

  90. Miraphora on June 10th, 2008 1:40 pm

    Hi all!

    This interview was funny!
I'm still waiting to read Phury (Itay is sooo far away)!

I'm curious about Jessica's book, I think I'll read it!

    Byeeeeee

  91. Joni G. on June 10th, 2008 1:40 pm

Hi J.R.! LOVE the BDB - it's my favorite books series EVER! I'm partway through LEn - and my question is: Do we find out WHAT the symbols on the door that Quinn sees when he's in the Fade mean?

Again, I can't write enough compliments about this series - they have taken on a life of their own for me and I have "shared" the BDB with everyone I know!

  92. Claryce on June 10th, 2008 1:41 pm

Is John Matthew really Darius reincarnated?

  93. Sybil on June 10th, 2008 1:42 pm

Rehv is coming out in May of 2009

serious? Did that get pushed back or did I dream it was being released in January? Too many books.... I tells yah.

I WANT. And who the hell is his mate? I haven't made it off the blog this month. A guest or more a day is a bitch on the blog hopping.

  94. Jessica Andersen on June 10th, 2008 1:42 pm

Milena and Susan- Thanks for maybe checking out NK! There's more info and an excerpt here at TGTBATU, and more on my website. Hope you'll give it a try and let me now what you think!

    Christy- hi back atcha!

Droushie, Cye and CourtneyLee- thanking you kindly for the props!

Courtney Caroll- Suz rocks. She's been an inspiration to me for a long time, and it was a total moment when she finished NIGHTKEEPERS and had a fangirl moment directed at me. It was like backwards world or something... but in a very cool way!

Ventrue- thanks for loving it! And karmic balance is a great phrase. Hmmm... I can't say I've got a favorite HEA, as I'm not a big one for re-reading, and I'm really easy when it comes to movie HEAs. I think for me what I strive for is the lift in my belly and the creepy-crawling goosebumps I get when I read (or write) an HEA that really works on a visceral level.

Greta- Hey! The WARDen and I will occasionally do stuff together (like this). We've got a dual chat coming up, I'll post the deets over at my site tomorrow; they may already be up over at hers, not sure. Thanks for asking!

  95. Kath on June 10th, 2008 1:43 pm

Hey!!Just wanted to say Hi again. Didnt we just do this yesterday????
Loved LEn, cant wait for compendium, will all the brothers be in it?????
Doc Jess...Enjoyed your book very much cant wait for more
    Stay cool!!

  96. Ashley on June 10th, 2008 1:43 pm

So of course like most bibliophiles i stayed up until the wee hours finishing the latest fab book. So i'm too exhausted to write lol. But i have to tell you....READ IT, READ THEM ALL!!!!!

  97. Sybil on June 10th, 2008 1:46 pm

speaking of brockmann anyone here beside me read Into the Fire yet... it is my first Troubleshooters book and I gots questions.

  98. Shana on June 10th, 2008 1:47 pm

Hats off to you Warden! I'm not a person that reads a whole lot, but when I read Dark Lover, it totally made me want to read more and more. I absolutely love your books, especially LAw & LEn. The twins are my favorites. You inspire me to keep reading. One thing that's been eating at me though is what did Qhuinn see at the Door!!! Thank you and keep these great books coming.

  99. Robin on June 10th, 2008 1:48 pm

OMG, I'm LOVING all these live chats, and the interaction b/w JR and Doc Jess is terrific!

Question to the WARDen: Is there any chance of you ever being close to Louisiana for a signing? Cause, straight up, getting the chance to meet you would be killer!

Now, BDB question: How many bedrooms are there at the mansion? LOL! It's just, a post at the Cell got me, and others, thinking, what with all the peeps living there now. Although, I'm positive that makes Fritz extremely happy! ((((Fritz))))

    And,

How many hours a day do you actually devote to writing? I can't imagine how busy your days must be!
    Thanks!
    Robin

  100. Laurie on June 10th, 2008 1:55 pm

    J.R. (WARDen)-
Love all the hype going on - so well deserved for this series because I remember a time when it wasn't so. Now I have all my friends reading the BDB.

The new boys coming up have finally become more real to me, so I can't wait for each and every one of their stories too.

My question would be now that the BDB is so popular will we be seeing the rest of the Jessica Bird books anytime soon? Especially for those off times when were trying to patiently wait for the BDB to release. ((*U*))
Keep doing that thing you do so well.
    Hugs
    Lauriekap

  101. Katy on June 10th, 2008 1:55 pm

on second read-through - going slower this time - can't wait to see Rhev meet his match!

  102. Thia on June 10th, 2008 1:55 pm

**Trying not to get all goobery here**

Hi, WARDen! How's it hanging? I absolutely love your books and you take as long as you need - as long as you keep rocking the awesome stories out! My question is:

Are you ever overwhelmed by the response fans have to your books? They have caught on like wildfire and we all love them so!

I have a different fave everytime I try to pick one. Here is a mood/brother chart:

Wrath - when I want to be thoroughly loved and need that big, bad man to hold me tight
Rhage - when I need to nurture a man that usually needs no-one
Zsadist - when I want to walk on the edge
Vishous - when I need a little discipline
Phury - when I want to cuddle with the sexiest man around
Rhevenge - well, he just floats my boat - what a wonderful bad boy/gentleman

The rest, well, what can I say - their time will come.....

  103. tiiana on June 10th, 2008 1:56 pm

Despite this book not totally being about Phury, I really loved this book. It basically forced to to love JM and Rehv more than I ever thought I could.

  104. Jeannie (LawyerLatina) on June 10th, 2008 1:56 pm

    Hi J.R.!

I love your definition of "short" story! !24 pages!!! WOW!!!

I loved LEn. I especially loved the BDB world building. It seems all the more real to me now. I am very much looking forward to future installments. BTW, I am SO loving Quinn. He is becoming one of my favorites. :)

Question: Do you see any of yourself in any of the Brothers, or Shellans?

    Be well!

  105. Jan on June 10th, 2008 1:56 pm

Lover Enshrined was probably the hardest book for me to read, due mostly to Phury's addiction and Hero complex. I know you've said V's book was hardest to date for you to write. That said, do you ever actively dislike any of the Brothers?

As difficult as it was to read, Phury's book was intense and satisfiying, a turning point in your on-going storyline. You have given us characters that have form and substance. You make me wnat to read and savor every word. Thank you.

  106. bean on June 10th, 2008 2:00 pm

    Hey JRW:

I love Phury's book! It's so exciting and elegantly written I'm in awe.

Now I know from yesterday's interview you hate to fly (me too! If I wasn't blood related to my family they'd be fond memories but as it is I've got to fly coast to coast to visit with them), however, any chance you might toodle out to the West Coast for an appearance?

    Congrats on the great story!!

Doc Jess, I've got NK but I haven't had time to crack it. Will do so on my much needed vacation! I'm sure it's great!

  107. Jessica Andersen on June 10th, 2008 2:00 pm

FWIW, the compendium is a ton of fun! [Doc Jess skips off, whistling innocently because she's always a book ahead of everyone else .]

RowanHastings- I hope you enjoy NK!

Miraphone- I'd tell you NK is awesome, but I'm admittedly biased .

Kath- Thanks for loving the book :)

Sibyl- You can try me with a Troubleshooters question... Suz has been an autobuy for me since her Intimate Moments days. No guarantees on my knowing the answer, though, as my brain's a bit full these days.

  108. Yvonne on June 10th, 2008 2:00 pm

WARDen thank you so much for such an awesome series, I think LEn made me cry the most and I can't wait for the next installment in May and hope there are many, many more to come.

I have one question, I am not that internet savvy and it seems that you put up a lot of good stuff on your BDB board, is there some way for that stuff to get to fans who like me just can't figure out how those boards work, every time I try I get lost or just don't get the flow and I give up, guess you really can't teach an old dog new tricks!

And to Doc Jess- loved, loved, loved Nightkeepers- thanks now I have a new series to love!

Thanks so much for all your hard work ladies needless to say keep em coming and I'll keep reading!

  109. J.R. Ward on June 10th, 2008 2:02 pm

hex2late- Hey baby! You'll see Nalla's birth in the Compendium but KEEP READING! on the others. *pats self on the back* The leaf is doing so good today! I r proud of myself! LOL

RowanHastings- I would love to hopefully someday get up that way. I've heard that its beautiful!

Vicki- Lash- yeah. WOW. 'Nuff said.

Mira- DEFO read it! It's AWESOME!!!

  110. Lisa W. on June 10th, 2008 2:02 pm

I so love this series JR. I have enjoyed it tremendiously and I think you for the world of the BDB. You set a standard that's hard for others to follow. I hope you know that. I have to say, Zadist and Vishous are my favs but I'm definatly looking forward to Rehvenge's story as well as Quinn's (if he gets a book) which I hope he does. John Matthew is a fav too so I look forward to reading his story. Good luck with the BDB and I hope to get a signed book sometime if you're ever SC way. Thanks for all you do! Lisa W.

  111. Kim on June 10th, 2008 2:09 pm

Thanks WARDen for all the amazing stories! I'm with you, Dark Lover is the best. Of course I do have a small thing for Wrath so that might be a part of why it's my favorite but I also loved him in LE and the way he took care of business.

    Thanks for sharing your brilliance

  116. U-vonne on June 10th, 2008 2:17 pm

I enjoyed LEn very much, you had a lot going on and you managed to keep it cohesive and moving forward. John's development and growth as well as his interactions with the others are intriguing and seeing Wrath throw his "crown" on was fun.

I was very happy that the scribe virgin did not get her way and though it was not as good as the "b*#%ch slap" she so richly deserves it was a definite gut punch. Please let the scribe virgin get her "slap" soon you know how important this is to me as it is the only question I ever ask.

    Thanks

  117. Nicola O. on June 10th, 2008 2:18 pm

    Hello JRW and JA!

I'm trying to think of a good question, but really, I don't want to hear a one-sentence answer, I just want to KEEEEEEP REEEEEADING!! I love the immersion effect of these stories.

My favorite thing about LEn is how it positions the BDB universe for such massive change. Nothing we "know" about its social structure from the previous books will necessarily hold true in the next ones, and I can't way to find out what is going to happen next.

The highest praise I can give a fantasy series is that when I try to put a book down, I just can't quit thinking about what it would be like to live in that universe. Everything about it is so clear, it just seems impossible that it only exists between the pages of books.

Thank you once more for the great stories and the great care you take of your fans. MUAAH!

  118. Stephanie (BKLYN) on June 10th, 2008 2:19 pm

    Hi there!
What a great day, well except for the fact that it's freakin 100 degrees here in NYC! Oh yum, coffee ice cream sounds so good right now. Thanks for this great Q&A.
Phury and Cormia's story is terrific. And I'm running through the Nightkeepers as we speak, omg, I was really into this stuff as a kid, so it is great to travel back. Thanks Dr. Jess - especially for the strong world building. Yippee.

I too, also want to know who/what did Qhuinn see at that door?

Also, one of my favorite lines from Phury's book? "I'll mark you up like a calendar." by the Rehv. Love, love, love it; still has me laughing.

Thank you both again for such great, cool fun.
    As ever,
    SH

  119. VaRaceFan on June 10th, 2008 2:19 pm

Loved LEn and already ready for the Compendium and Rehv!
(I refuse to ask a question cuz I just don't want to hear KKEEEPP RREEAADDIINNGG - LOL)

  120. VishousBabe on June 10th, 2008 2:22 pm

    Hi WARDen!!!
I've just began LEn and may I say from word one I began holding my breath... yea well, ok i finally let it out!LOL. I just want to thank you for bringing this world of The Brothers and the Vampire Society to all of us. It truly does get into your system and stays with you always. The characters are so realistic with all the flaws they each have, that we accept them much more readily than the perfect people that are usually in romance novels. Not to say the guys aren't perfect looking!!! Thanks,again... V.

  121. Chris on June 10th, 2008 2:24 pm

I just wanted to say that I love all of the books and am totally excited for the compendium and Rehv's book!

  122. Samantha on June 10th, 2008 2:24 pm

Thanks for sharing the brothers with us.

I turned my sister on to them and she made a BDB mix cd for me. Bonus!

One of my fav parts is V and Rhage looking at Wrath with "Who Me?" expressions, and "Flinchers get f***ed, the steady ones get the goods." Don't know why, it just makes me smile.
    Love me some V!!

  123. Pamk on June 10th, 2008 2:25 pm

whoohooo Loved loved loved Phury and you made me cry there at the end. Can't wait for Rehv's book and JM's and Quinns, and the rest lol
Two questions actually will we eventually being seeing more of Payne and does V know about her. And will she get her own book.
oh well technically I guess that was 3 quesions.
    Love the books

  124. LaurieB on June 10th, 2008 2:28 pm

Okay, just had to post quick (again!) and say that, weak as I am, I had to run to Hastings on lunch and buy Nightkeepers. Wow, it looks great! Is this the first in a series, or am I starting in the middle? Can't wait for another great read :)
Also, noticed Warden didn't even KR me :( Guessing my question about Ehlena being Sympath or vamp was too specific? Sorry if so ;) Love all the books, so I'm sure whatever will be great.

  125. J.R. Ward on June 10th, 2008 2:31 pm

Hi, had to get more coffee! Argh ok I'll catch up!

Joni.G - I'm glad your liking the series, I do too ;) as for the symbols, it's the whole 'coffin thing' again. I know they mean something and it will be explained but the how, why and when errhm is a KEEEEEEEP REEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAADING!

Claryce Yes J.M is Darius reincarnated, the S.V did a cool time whammy and put D back. But he had to make sacrifices to do so, so he can't talk or remember his past life.

Syb Afraid so baby girl, but he is sooooooo going to be worth the wait and the lucky, lucky, lucky lady is

    SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

Ehlena - she's the blonde nurse that gets Butch a coffee and then helps with the evac at Havers.

  126. Yvonne on June 10th, 2008 2:32 pm

I forgot to say I had one request, please give us a brother or two who are into heavy metal instead of rap, I am so NOT into rap, love the opera though but I need me a fellow head banger!

  127. Debbie_D on June 10th, 2008 2:32 pm

Thanks so much for sharing the brother's with us!

And yes I was teary eyed with the scene ending on pg 497. Am so looking foward to Rehvs book. Keep writing them, and we'll keep reading them

  130. Jessica Miller on June 10th, 2008 2:38 pm

Dear JR Ward and Jessica Andersen,

    Fantastic interview!

JR, I LOVED Lover Enshrined! OMG...that is all I can think to say about it! I read Dark Lover when it first came out and even though waiting for each Brothers' story has been hard...they have all been so worth it! I love how you bring the Brothers' and their world right here, alive, in full color and surround sound. You have an incredilble gift and thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing it with us.
I also wanted to thank you for the interview you did with Jessica. Great recommendation!

Jessica, I picked up Nightkeepers and have finished it! Loved it! I haven't really read much about the Mayan civilization, and wow...well I think that I am going to be doing a little more reading about the civilization that you have sparked an interest in for me. I look forward to your next book!

    Thank you so much! JessMiller

  131. Naomi on June 10th, 2008 2:38 pm

WARDen, I've got to tell you, your books are now my absolute favorites. I started with V, and now I'm hooked, I think I've read them enough to have them memorized!!

And now, that I have bday money, w00t! I'm going to have to go get Nightkeepers! Another obsession to start!

  132. Terri on June 10th, 2008 2:39 pm

LOVE the BDB and JR Ward... Look forward to reading Jessica's book as well.

  133. Jamey on June 10th, 2008 2:44 pm

I discovered the BDB thru the miracle of Amazon recommendations and am the most devout of readers. I've even dragged my BFF into the fray and she's loving it. I would adore seeing this come to life on the big or little screen but would also hate it because there isn't enough commitment in any producer or company that would have the commitment and the $ to do JR Ward's masterpieces justice. My only complaint about these books are that they're too good and impossible to put down so it's over before you know it.

  134. Jessica Andersen on June 10th, 2008 2:47 pm

bean, Naomi and Terri- Thanks for giving Nightkeepers a look-see, I hope you enjoy the heck out of it!

Yvonne, Sarah, KimF and Jessica Miller- Hugs, and thanks for letting me know you loved the book!

Laurie B- LOL on the lunchtime bookstore run! I hope you love NK, and yes, you're starting in the right place. It's the first book of a series that (I hope) will run until the end of 2012!

  135. J.R. Ward on June 10th, 2008 2:48 pm

Hello again Kath Yes the Brothers all feature in the Compendium/Insiders guide. It's jammed full of stuff and I can't wait until you all get it!

Aww thanks Ashley and I hope when you did get to sleep eventually your dreams were Brothertastic!

Shana Glad you love the series as much as I love writing it! The door will be revealed, not sure when though!

Robin thanks I love doing them too! Hmm good question you know what I'll have to ask Fritz, I'm sure he has counted LOLOL and If I'm ever in Louisiana - you got it baby girl!

Well it can vary from day to day but I like writing in the morning, try and do the correspondence in the afternoon it can be up to 14 hours some days - thats when I REALLY love my coffee pot and need hugs from my dog!

Laurie Yeah, I too have met great people since I started on this roller coaster - which I plan God willing not to get off anytime soon, the BDB keeps me pretty busy but...I never say never!

Katy Second read??!! You go girl!

Thia O.M.G I love your chart!!! Hmm, more surprised than overwhelmed. I mean I always loved the Brothers but it is a surprise how many others do too, and just how much they mean to them. I have the greatest bunch of fans, but they keep me grounded too. I think I'm pretty lucky.

Tiiana I feel ya on the loving JM and Rehv ;)

  136. Sybil on June 10th, 2008 2:50 pm

Correct me if I am wrong... but NiN has been in a book... a lot or maybe even books? I want to say for sure in Zs. And Nine Inch Nails isn't rap. ;)

  137. Sybil on June 10th, 2008 2:53 pm

When does the antho come out? Or has that been scheduled yet? There is still one right? I just remember JR Ward and Kenyon.

Know who else is in it yet?

Doesn't suppose you wanna make me REALLY happy and tell me when the next SSE will be out *g*. pllllleeeeeeeaaaaaaaassssssssseeeeeeeee

  138. TxBecky on June 10th, 2008 2:53 pm

Love the Brothers WARDen and thank you so much for bringing them to us. As a Z lover I cannot wait for the Compendium and that lovely not-quite short story.

I have a "time-frame" question. LEn starts twenty years ago but did the Omega go back in time to do what he did or did that actually happen 20 years ago? I'm guessing he went back in time but I wasn't sure.

Doc Jess, I bought NightKeepers when I got LEn but after finishing Phury, I needed something lighter (way too much to think about in LEn!) but NK is the next book in my TBR pile.

  139. Susan on June 10th, 2008 2:56 pm

    Hi Warden,

I love your books and each one holds a special place in my heart. Phury's book blew me away and I can't wait to get my greedy little hands on the compendium and Rehv's book.

But what did Quinn see???? No, no, no keeeeeeep Reeeeeaaading

I am begging here. Please Pretty Please with Sugar on It

Okay figured it was worth a shot :D

    **Jessica Anderson,

I am halfway through Nightkeepers and loving every moment of it. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Thank you both for great books,
    Susan/dragonsdy

  140. Sybil on June 10th, 2008 2:58 pm

we should get a nightkeeper novella and a bdb in one book... how soon til you two can work that out ;)

  141. Robin on June 10th, 2008 3:01 pm

Oh, and I wanted to do a shout-out to Doc Jess!

I am LOST in NightKeepers! It is an amazing book so far, you have acquired yet another fan who is dying to delve deeper into your world! I totally love Strike LOL

Thanks WARDen, for answering! Your days sound hectic, but I can't imagine spending so much time with the Brothers is a hardship :P

I'll keep my fingers crossed re: a Louisiana visit!

  142. J.R. Ward on June 10th, 2008 3:01 pm

Jeannie/LL uhm yeah, would have been longer too, well you know me and Z oh where was I? I swear my editor is a saint putting up with me and my wandering page counts! MMM Qhuinn!! YUM!!! I don't see myself, but there are definitely times I can relate to their feelings. But I try not to base any of them on people I know as it's not fair but I'm sure there are influences out there ;)

Jan Thanks! Phury was the perfect gentleman to write but, boy did I bawl like a baby at parts!

Bean If I can I will! Then we can compare flying horror stories LOLOL

Doc Jess And she says she not evil PFFT what ever!

  143. Cathy on June 10th, 2008 3:03 pm

JR, I just love the Brotherhood and enjoy reading all their stories! I can't wait until the next one.

My question for you is: (SPOILER)When Cormia was in the Scribes Temple using the crystal bowl she saw a blond lesser with fangs will she tell the Brotherhood about this or will she keep it to herself?

  144. Jennifer on June 10th, 2008 3:04 pm

Love all the books; just finished Doc Jess' last night!!!

Have to say my favorite BDB novel is still Rhage's...but I'm looking forward to JM's!!

    Thanks for the great reading!!!!

  145. Sybil on June 10th, 2008 3:05 pm

Yes it is the July book.

I have this thing about reading out of order *g*. But I was wondering if Izzy's has been in other Troubleshooter books and if so which ones. I am thinking he has. Just too lazy to have to wade through and figure out which ones :)

  146. maritza on June 10th, 2008 3:05 pm

I loved Phury's book. I have to buy a second copy cuz someone stold my work bag which had my copy in it!!!

  147. Thia on June 10th, 2008 3:09 pm

    Jessica -
I went and checked, I have Nightkeepers in my TBR! It just got bumped to the front! Can't wait!

WARDen, I met you at the RWA booksigning in Hotlanta and you were very gracious. That is probably why your fans love you so! Keep it up!

  148. bean on June 10th, 2008 3:10 pm

Question based on SPOILER! SPOILER! SPOILER!

When you wrote the scene with the nurse getting coffee for Butch in LA did you know or get a sense she would come back and be important later? I mean, was she a 'coffin'?

And BTW: by West Coast visit I mean LA/Hollywood. Lotsa cellies out here! :D

  149. LaurieB on June 10th, 2008 3:12 pm

    Sybil:

Yes Izzy has been in almost all of them, if only in a secondary capacity. I'm too lazy to check, too ;) I hear ya on the out of order thing--I started with V (what a way to start!!) then went backwards with the BDB books, then re read them all in order. What a muddle!

  150. CourtneyCarroll on June 10th, 2008 3:13 pm

Sybil-Izzy was introduced in other books. I'm terrible at Suz's order and titles but he was definitely in "Into the Storm" that I think was three books ago??

  151. Alyssa on June 10th, 2008 3:13 pm

Sorry you won't be at RWA this year. Hope to catch you next time.

I just started watching The Office and I love it. I know what you mean about watching it for hours and hours. :)

    Z's my fave so far.

  152. Willa on June 10th, 2008 3:17 pm

Picked through the interview and comments to avoid any spoilers! Got Nightkeepers and Lover Enshrined arriving any day in the post - yes I live in the boondocks!

Can't wait! Dark Lover is still my all time fave - the excitement of finding a fabulous new series to read - and Wrath.

  153. Kiley on June 10th, 2008 3:19 pm

Dark Lover was the 1st romance novel that i ever read. now the brothers are as real to me as my own family and i have thousands of new friends on the boards. THANKS WARDEN!!

ever since reading NK i've developed a paranoia of the apocalypse, but have much hope for survival because magic is real! THANKS DOC JESS!!

  154. J.R. Ward on June 10th, 2008 3:23 pm

Syb Oh sorry Syb, the UF vs PNR - With the Brothers, I simply write the stories as I see them in my head - but there will always be romance and HEA's. And the S.S.E theres definitely 2 more just not sure when LOL

  155. Katie on June 10th, 2008 3:23 pm

    Hey JR!

I just wanted to pop in and say that I loved Lover Enshrined. I've always had a soft spot for Qhuinn, Blaylock, and JM so I really enjoyed the scenes with them in it. I'm so so excited for JM's book to come out. I know it's going to be awesome.

I'm a huge fan and will continue to buy the books after they come out in hardcover, but do you know if the first 6 books in the series will come out in hardcover after Lover Avenged has come out in hardcover? I'd like to have a set of the books in hardcover and have a set in paperback too. You're the only author who I'd spend that kind of money on. lol

Thanks for being such an amazing author!

  156. susan on June 10th, 2008 3:27 pm

I loved Phury's book. It was great seeing him conquer his addiction. The way each book brings out more about the wolrd of the BDB is amazing. I can't wait for Rehvenge.

  157. Robin on June 10th, 2008 3:32 pm

    K, what's an SSE?

  164. Trish on June 10th, 2008 3:41 pm

I must admit ice cream is my downfall. I am an ice cream junkie! Mint Chocolate Chip is my fav.

I am completely in love with your BDB series I can't tell you how many times I have read them and thought about the complex characters. You have a wonderful talent for brining the Brothers to life. My favorite Book was Rhage's and Phury's would be a close second. The end of Phury's book had me crying like a baby. What an awesome touching scene!

I have always thought that the Brothers would make an awesome Movie and or series on HBO OR an other cable channel. Have you been approached about this at all and if not tell me who I can write to get the ball rolling! ;)

  165. Michele on June 10th, 2008 3:41 pm

Phury is so sexy! I wish I could smoke coffee scented ciggeretts. But I dont think I'd dig the wizzard mocking me. I would love to win the complete BDB set because a few of the books I borrowed from the library and my Mom wants to read the serries.

  166. J.R. Ward on June 10th, 2008 3:44 pm

My favourite line of the book comes from Xhex. Who'd have thunk? You know, the line she gives to JM. HAWT!

  170. Oggi on June 10th, 2008 3:54 pm

    Hey JR!
I really enjoyed LEn. It was a great setup to many interesting things to come...and I anxiously await, lol.

I have a question about the ribbons for Nalla's crib: How are the colors determined for the human shellans? What's the Mary/Rhage and the V/Jane ribbon colors? And also, if uncle Rehv doesn't have a shellan yet, does he not get to pledge a ribbon?

    Thanks!

  171. Cmarie on June 10th, 2008 3:55 pm

Thank You WARDen for another fantastic trip to Caldwell.
I can't wait for the next time. :)

Okay, another question, but this one is for a cellie who can't post here (at work, no no, etc) She wants to know if you could tell us how much time elapses between the end of LEN and Rehvs book, or if that is a KR? We are working on a timeline ;) Thanks much!!

  183. Stacie Mc on June 10th, 2008 4:18 pm

Love the BDB. Just finished LEn and wanted to say thanks for reuniting John and Tohr. This series keeps going new places and it's so exciting. I'm hooked!

Hi WARDen a lot of things happened 25yrs. ago in the books is there any significance to that? Sybil,My favorites are Classified Baby, Meet me at Midnight, and my really, really favorite is Red Alert. Hope this helps.

  187. Jaime on June 10th, 2008 4:28 pm

JR- you are AWESOME! Just when I thought I couldn't be more in love with this series... you do it again! LEn is my favorite so far... Tohr is home, YAY! JM is awesome and I am positive that Payne is going to kick butt and I can't wait!

    THANK YOU!!!

  188. Candice on June 10th, 2008 4:29 pm

Wow there are a lot of comments here lol I loved the interview and have to say that I look forward to Nightkeepers (should be arriving any second!!) The BDB is one of my favs and that could never change. I was blown away with Phury's book. At the end of every chapter I had to take a deep breath because they were like mini cliffhangers. Of course they were resolved to a point later on in the book, but oh man was I antsy to jump ahead to see what happend with the characters.

So one of my favs were scenes with a certain Fallen Angel, I can tell already that I'm going to love his parts, er, in the books that is ;)

Oh and I just gotta say my fav ice cream... Cotton Candy flavored, yum :)

Much love to JR and Jessica and of course
    **KISSES TO THE BROTHERS**

  189. JANELLE SEARLES on June 10th, 2008 4:32 pm

Forgot to ask my question. Silly me.

Do the Brother's and civilians just live in the Caldwell area or do they live all over the World, just the U.S.?

    Thanks bunches.

I loved Lover Enshrined! I stayed up til after midnight so I could finish it. Zsadist is still my favorite brother and thank you so much for writing about the BDB! Can't wait for October, I think the Compendium comes out just in time for my birthday.

    Hi JR,
I hope there will be new Jessica Bird books soon.

Great books, great series, great author... (I haven't read Dr. Anderson yet, but I'm sure I'll shortly be saying the same of her. lol.)

What more could a girl ask for?

P.S. If Phury were a real person, I would be declaring my undying devotion after reading Lover Enshrined.

    Hi JR and Jessica!

Thank you for this interview! Given how good friends you are this must have been fun for you to do :-D. I read LEn last week and I'm totally hung up on JM, Qhuinn and Blay. JR you created a great dynamic between the three of them. I loved the scene in the PT suite! Hands down, my favorite of the book. I'm really looking forward to the Compendium in October! I'm still hoping there might be something new abotu V and Butch (I admit it, I'm addicted), but truly, any new information on the Brothers will be welcome :-D

    Have a great day!

    What Jane said...

    J,
Once you've cloned yourself and are able to write Billy and Mac O'Banyon's stories -- I will be divinely happy. That is, until I finish reading them, then I'll start pining again.

I love the O'Banyons, and of course, Alex Moorehouse!!!!!

The whole set autographed, I am so up for that! I have to tell a funny here, I am a middle aged lady and not really "with it" as far as current slang goes. My BF got me my first BDB book because he had never heard me mention J.R.Ward so he felt safe in getting it, of course I was immediately hooked. There was a little extra in the whole scenario though, now when my daughter talks I actually understand her because she talks like the Brothers! She is so totally impressed because mom knows what she is saying. Thank you for great books and the insight into my kids as well!

JR - Thank you so much for writing such enthralling books. I get 'sucked in' to each book and it takes me weeks to come back down again after each read (and even the re-reads)!

Will Phury and Cormia's Mating Ceremony be in the Compendium?
    Will Layla get a HEA?
What authors do you read when you have a spare moment or two?

    Thanks for such great books!
