REVIEW: Lover Avenged by J.R. Ward
Sandy M’s review of Lover Avenged (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 7) by J.R. Ward
Paranormal Romance published by NAL 28 Apr 09
Well, I have a feeling I’m going to be in the minority once again when it comes to these Black Dagger Brotherhood books. Which is just fine. ‘Cuz I’m loving the series still. I really loved this book in particular, mostly because all of the previous characters were involved in the story more than in the last couple of books and the romance didn’t suffer at all. Ward is so good at doing that, I hope she continues to so from here on out. It is a brotherhood, I want them all involved all the time in just more than a few pages each. read more…

REVIEW: Bound by Your Touch by Meredith Duran
Lawson’s review of Bound by Your Touch by Meredith Duran
Historical romance released by Pocket 30 Jun 09
Duran’s first book, Duke of Shadows, was a great debut and a powerful story. If you haven’t read it, you should, though it is a stand alone book and has no relation to this story. After reading this one, it’s clear that Duran puts a lot of research into her books and tries as hard as possible to get details that help make the story. While I didn’t know the exact year, there were enough details to help give a general time frame in the 1880s. read more…
REVIEW: The Bravo Bachelor by Christine Rimmer
Holly‘s review of The Bravo Bachelor by Christine Rimmer
Contemporary Romance released by Silhouette Special Edition 1 Apr 09
I really love these “pregnant widow” stories. I don’t know why, exactly, since they often leave me feeling frustrated and annoyed (depending on the heroine’s feelings for her dead husband), but there you have it. Luckily this one worked very well for me. read more…
REVIEW: What Happens in London by Julia Quinn
Lawson’s review of What Happens in London by Julia Quinn
Historical romance released by Avon 30 Jun 09
This book is the sequel to The Secret Diaries of Miranda Cheever, following Miranda’s best friend Olivia. I don’t know how many have been wanting this story, but I’m glad to see that Olivia got her story and perhaps her twin brother Winston will get his as well. There are some comic elements in this story, but don’t be scared away if you’re not a fan of “teh funnah” as it’s well done and not of the slapstick variety. read more…
REVIEW: Seduce the Darkness by Gena Showalter
Gwen’s review of Seduce the Darkness (Alien Huntress, Book 4) by Gena Showalter
Futuristic paranormal romance released by Pocket Star 30 Jun 09
I’ve read lots of Gena Showalter and enjoy her writing quite a bit – she’s edgy, passionate, and not afraid to go to dark places. I hadn’t read any of this series until this book. Even then, I read the blurb and, frankly, I was underwhelmed – it just didn’t grab me. But I read reviews of the series, from people I respect, so I took a chance. I even soldiered on in spite of early misgivings in the first few chapters. I mean, the hero is a total p___y hound and the heroine is a complete cipher. I remained perfectly prepared not to like it. Read on to see if I changed my mind… read more…
REVIEW: Ice by Stephanie Rowe
Sandy M’s review of Ice by Stephanie Rowe
Romantic Suspense published by Love Spell 30 Jun 09
I have all of Stephanie Rowe’s paranormals sitting on my TBR shelf. So I was a little surprised when I got this book to review, not expecting a romantic suspense from her. Let me tell you, Ms. Rowe does one heck of a job in this genre. From the beginning she had me hooked with a gripping story, one nasty villain, and a hero and heroine, though they have their own issues to overcome, who are ultimate survivors and definitely stronger for those issues. read more…
REVIEW: The Heiress’s Two-Week Affair by Marie Ferrarella
Wendy the Super Librarian‘s review of The Heiress’s Two-Week Affair by Marie Ferrarella
Romantic suspense released by Silhouette Romantic Suspense 1 Apr 09
Romantic suspense is a tricky genre to write in because the author has to satisfy both camps of readers. The suspense has to be suspenseful, the romance has to be romantic, and both of them have to be convincing. Then try to do that in a shorter category format, and it’s a pretty tall order to fill. This first book in the multi-author Love In 60 Seconds series also has the added task of setting the whole wheel in motion. While the author does an amiable job juggling it all, I still found the experience a bit of a mixed bag. read more…
REVIEW: A Hint of Wicked by Jennifer Haymore
Limecello’s review of A Hint of Wicked by Jennifer Haymore
Historical romance published by Forever on 1 Jun 09
I heard a LOT of hype about this book, and I have to admit, love triangles are one of my favorite story lines. There’s something about them – I know a number of people don’t like them and don’t think they work… but I’m not one such person. The storyline of A Hint of Wicked seems familiar (both in general but also specifically) – but Jennifer Haymore’s story is different and unique. I’m definitely looking forward to more of Ms. Haymore’s novels. read more…
REVIEW: Prey by Rachel Vincent
Liviania‘s review of Prey (Shifters, Book 4) by Rachel Vincent
Contemporary paranormal romance/urban fantasy released by MIRA 1 Jul 09
I love it when I stick to a series and it pays off. With Rachel Vincent’s Werecat books, the first two just didn’t work for me, but were so close to working that I couldn’t resist continuing. I mentioned in my review of Pride that I felt it was a running leap in the right direction, which makes Prey the right direction. read more…
