REVIEW: The Shivering Sands by Victoria Holt

Book CoverStevie‘s review of The Shivering Sands by Victoria Holt
Historical Romantic Suspense published by Sourcebooks Casablanca 03 Sep 13

I’m absolutely loving the various authors and titles that Sourcebooks are resurrecting from the recent past. Victoria Holt is another of those that I’d vaguely heard of, but had never got around to reading before, and now I want to investigate more of her back catalogue. The Shivering Sands is a great introduction to her work, and had me figuratively on the edge of my seat at various points.

REVIEW: Unscrupulous by Avery Aster

Book CoverStevie‘s review of Unscrupulous (The Manhattanites, Book 2) by Avery Aster
Contemporary erotic romance published by Ellora’s Cave 14 Aug 13

As I mentioned when reviewing the previous Manhattanites book, I was drawn to this series by the blurb I was sent, which included an intriguing content warning for ‘just about everything your besties ever told you not to do–including getting vajazzled’, and read that story first because I’m a stickler for reading things in order. I was a little concerned on starting Unscrupulous that, firstly, the bad porn dialogue of the first would feature once again, and ,secondly, that the content warning would fail to deliver on its promises. My first concern wasn’t fully realised, but as for the second…

REVIEW: Theirs to Keep by Maya Banks

Sandy M’s review of Theirs to Keep (Tangled Hearts Trilogy, Book 1) by Maya Banks
Erotic Romance published by Maya Banks 22 Oct 13

I’m always excited to read a Maya Banks book, and this one is no exception. Though part of the theme is similar to a number of other stories out there in romanceland – the heroine has blocked horrible memories so she doesn’t remember anything, including who she is – it’s the heroes who bring the story home and make this a warm and erotic read.

REVIEW: Summer is for Lovers by Jennifer McQuiston

Book CoverVeena’s review of Summer is for Lovers by Jennifer McQuiston
Historical Romance published by Avon 24 Sep 13

Living on the fringe of society in genteel poverty in a summer town like Brighton does not present many opportunities to find a suitable husband. The problem is compounded for tomboy Caroline, because she can probably out walk and out swim most of her gentleman callers who prefer more feminine ladies. Rumors of a royal visit have generated a lot more summer visitors and the social scene looks like it’s going to be a lot busier with a lot of opportunities. This book sounded like this was going to be a great read, but, somehow, it seemed to fizzle out.

REVIEW: Dark Witch by Nora Roberts

Book Cover

Sandy M’s review of Dark Witch (Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy, Book 1) by Nora Roberts
Paranormal Romance published by Berkley Trade 29 Oct 13

I know I’m like a lot of Nora Roberts’ fans, so very glad she writes across all genres in romance. After her Inn Boonsboro trilogy and The Witness – an all-time Nora fave now – I’m excited to begin this new paranormal series introducing the O’Dwyer cousins and the evil their ancestor nearly vanquished that they must now fight to bring balance into their lives and to the very powerful magick they wield.

REVIEW: Drawn Together by Lauren Dane

Veena’s review of Drawn Together (Brown Family, Book 6) by Lauren Dane
Contemporary Erotic Romance published by Berkley 24 Sep 13

I was very hesitant to read this book, because I just couldn’t see myself spending time with a character that I disliked when I first met her, and, despite the author’s valiant attempts in subsequent books to paint a better picture of her, I just couldn’t find myself warming up to. What a mistake it would have been to miss what I consider one of the best books that I’ve read this year. Jonah and Raven just sucked me into their story and made me a raving fan. Ms. Dane, you have hit this one right out of the ballpark.

REVIEW: Everything You Need to Know by Helen Kay Dimon

Veena’s review of Everything You Need to Know by HelenKay Dimon
Erotic Romance published by Cosmo Red Hot Reads by Harlequinn 15 Oct 13

I thoroughly enjoyed this short novella. Jordan gets laid off and picks herself up and starts a web site that’s like a Wikipedia on single men in the metropolitan area. Women can post their experiences and warn off their sisters and/or check in and get the low-down on potential dates. Pretty ingenious, huh?

REVIEW: The Secrets She Carried by Barbara Davis

Book Cover

Sandy M’s review of The Secrets She Carried by Barbara Davis
Contemporary Romance published by NAL Trade 1 Oct 13

I think it’s my new-found hobby of genealogy that heightened my curiosity when I read the blurb for this book, telling me I’d be in for a very delicious story. Connecting with your past, finding out the truth, discovering where and who you come from has a way of fascinating folks, who then become addicted to searching for more ancestors and even more ancestors.  Our heroine, Leslie, comes to that point in this story, wanting to know more and more. Though her search is slightly different than what genealogists do, it still has the same impact.
