Veena’s review of Consequences Of That Night (At His Service) by Jennie Lucas
Contemporary Romance published by Harlequin Presents 01 Nov 13

He’s a stereotype Italian billionaire famous for bedding women and walking away. She’s his reliable fade-into-the-background housekeeper who ensures his home life runs like a well-oiled machine until the one night when she shares his bed. It’s not that easy to turn the clock back and pretend like it never happened.
Emma has always loved Cesare from afar as she watched the women come and go in his life. Then one night when her defenses are low, unexpected compassion from Cesare leads to an unforgettable night in his bed. It’s unforgettable in more ways than one, since the unthinkable happens and she becomes pregnant. Pretty careless for a womanizing billionaire!

Emma flees from the scene of the crime and hides out in the home of Cesare’s worst enemy where Cesare ultimately finds her and his son. While he never intended to ever marry again after his first wife committed suicide, the choice is now out of his hands. He can’t leave his son in the hands of a man who hates him. Not to forget thoughts of Emma and her sweet innocence in his bed, which have haunted him since she left.

A romantic proposal at the top of the Eiffel Tower with red roses as an alternative to a bloody custody battle, can Emma burrow beneath the stone wall protecting Cesare’s heart and find a place for herself? She is so alone and needs a connection, having been betrayed in the worst way by her own family, and now she has a son to protect.

I enjoyed Emma’s feisty character and how she stands up to the big bad wolf and alternatively stands up for him when the time comes. This is a typical Harlequin romance and the story follows a pretty predictable path.

Grade: C+
