REVIEW: Private Research by Sabrina Darby
Stevie‘s review of Private Research by Sabrina Darby
Contemporary Erotic Romance published by Avon Red Impulse 29 Oct 13
When I was offered this book for review, it had a much more interesting (to my mind) blurb than the one currently on Amazon, and one that also more accurately reflected what the book’s about, in my opinion. Billed in its extended title as ‘an erotic novella,’ this feels closer to a short novel, and, while there’s lots of sex, most of the scenes aren’t quite as in depth as I was expecting. Having said all that, the twin non-romance plot-lines did grab my attention and managed to hold onto it for the majority of the story.
EXCERPT: Slow Ride Home by Leah Braemel
I’m a big-time cowboy lover. Love rodeos. Love the cowboy swagger. Those boots and cowboy hats, black or white. Guess that’s why I love Ben Grady. He’s definitely a cowboy, in charge of the family ranch and runs it exactly the way he wants.
But I also love his vulnerability when it shows itself in him. Not often, but it’s there. Especially around Allie now that she’s returned to where she belongs, as far as he’s concerned. But Ben would never push her toward something she may not want.
Allie is just as much a cowgirl as Ben is a cowboy. She has the blast of a lifetime running farm equipment, riding hell bent over the countryside, and just being on the ranch. With Ben, of course. They have so much history together, but there’s just as much hurt between them to go along with that history. There’s a lot to overcome before they’ll know if they truly belong together this second time around…
Summary:
Losing his father was hard enough, but now Ben Grady must face the fact that he and his brother may not be sole owners of their beloved ranch. To protect his family’s legacy, he’s forced to rely on the legal prowess of the woman who stars in his erotic fantasies: Allie O’Keefe. Ben’s never forgotten the illicit encounter they shared fifteen years ago—or forgiven himself for letting her go.
Allie thought she’d moved beyond the scandal that cost her Ben in the past. But working so closely with the seductive rancher arouses the wild child within the cautious woman she’s become. Though she tries to keep business and pleasure separate, Allie soon gives in to temptation, and discovers Ben’s sensual skills surpass even her X-rated memories…
Allie has every intention of leaving Bull’s Hollow forever after her investigation is complete. But there are a few complications. Not the least of which is that while saving the ranch, Allie’s lost her heart.
Enjoy this teaser to get to know Ben and Allie…
GUEST BLOG: Emotional Cowboy Reunion by Leah Braemel
Thanks so much for hosting me to talk about Slow Ride Home, the first book in The Grady Legacy trilogy. When my editor first contacted me about writing another contemporary western for Carina, I knew right from the start that I wanted it to be a reunited lovers story—there’s something about the idea of having a second chance that I find enticing.
REVIEW: Slow Ride Home by Leah Braemel
Sandy M’s review of Slow Ride Home (The Grady Legacy, Book 1) by Leah Braemel
Contemporary Romance published by Carina Press 11 Nov 13
This is my first book by Leah Braemel and is the first book in her new series about the Grady brothers, one of which is quite a surprise for everyone, reader as well as characters, near the end of this story. I like our hero Ben a lot. I always fall hard for a sexy cowboy. Allie is his weak spot, even after all the years she’s been gone and then suddenly reappears in his life. Despite all the lies and deceit they discover in their past and the fact he and his brother Jake could lose the ranch, Ben is very happy to have Allie back at Bull’s Hollow. Now he just has to convince her it’s the right thing for them both.
REVIEW: Dollface: A Novel of the Roaring Twenties by Renee Rosen
Stevie‘s review of Dollface: A Novel of the Roaring Twenties by Renee Rosen
Historical Crime Fiction published by NAL 05 Nov 13
Romance this ain’t. Sure, the heroine gets hot and heavy with two men from opposite sides of the Chicago mobster divide, but you just know things aren’t going to end well for anyone: not for Vera, not for her men, and not for the majority of her friends and their men. They’re all struggling to make a better life for themselves, but don’t always go for the most sensible options in the process.

This is a duty versus love story, and while some parts are a bit unbalanced, it is an enjoyable read.

One beautiful archeologist + one mystery box = one gorgeous highlander in a kilt + one handsome Pict with blue paint. That equation sounded like a total win/win, so I didn’t hesitate to pick this one up to read and review. read more…
REVIEW: Colters’ Gift by Maya Banks
Sandy M’s review of Colters’ Gift (Colters’ Legacy, Book 5) by Maya Banks
Contemporary Erotic Romance published by Berkley Trade 5 Nov 13
I’ve been looking forward to this story. I felt for Lauren when we met her in previous books, discovering her horrible experience with someone who supposedly cared for her. Waiting to find out who it would be to help her heal and face the future has been worth it. Lauren, Liam, and Noah all embrace a way of life a family has held dear for decades.
REVIEW: The Outlaw Knight by Elizabeth Chadwick
Stevie‘s review of The Outlaw Knight (The Fitzwarin Novels Book 2) by Elizabeth Chadwick
Biographical historical fiction published by Sourcebooks Landmark 03 Sep 13
Don’t be put off by the implication from Amazon that this is the second book in a series. The Outlaw Knight is a US republication of Chadwick’s Lords of the White Castle, which was originally a standalone novel. The first book of what’s now the series, Shadows and Strongholds, is actually the prequel, which was written after the success of Lords of the White Castle. So if you haven’t read the prequel, you haven’t read the original under its previous title, and you’re in the mood for meaty historical fiction, you definitely need to grab this now.
REVIEW: Rumor Has It by Jill Shalvis
Sandy M’s review of Rumor Has It (Animal Magnetism, Book 4) by Jill Shalvis
Contemporary Romance published by Berkley 5 Nov 13
I can’t tell you how much I love Jill Shalvis. This Animal Magnetism series has been such wonderful fun to read. As much as I’ve enjoyed all the characters and their predicaments – along with the cute and lovable animals – what has kept me glued to the pages once I start reading is the humor. I’ve definitely laughed out loud throughout each story, which gives me more of a homey, family feeling with these folks in Sunshine, Idaho.
