Audrey And The Maverick is Elaine Levine follow up her debut novel Rachel and the Hired Gun.
I enjoyed the first book, which I wasn’t too sure I would because ‘ranch wars’ are often not a good read for me.
But I found this one surprisingly entertaining. I loved the heroine. Rachel is fab and unlike Kristie J, (read her review here) I didn’t have issue with not getting a description of what the hero/heroine looked like. In fact I didn’t notice. You can read an excerpt for Rachel and the Hired Gun here.
comes out February 2010
In Elaine Levine’s stunning novel of the American West, a proud rancher and a determined young woman are drawn together in the lawless town of Defiance.
.
Virginia financier Julian McCaid has put his troubled past behind him. His plans for the future don’t include Audrey Sheridan, the extraordinary frontier woman he met just once. But it’s because of her that he’s come to the Dakota Territory to investigate problems at his ranch. And it’s all the more surprising when he discovers she isn’t the innocent he believed. Now nothing but her complete surrender will purge her from his soul.
.
If it weren’t for the children she cares for in her makeshift orphanage, Audrey would have left Defiance long ago. Now the sheriff is blackmailing her to distract the man who might derail his corrupt schemes—a man who can offer Audrey not just protection, but a passion bold enough to make them claim their place in this harsh and beautiful land…
I can’t find an excerpt. And this is shallow but I ADORE the cover.
Really don’t you agree?
The trilogy ends with Leah and the Avenger
A vigilante hired to clean up the corrupt and rapidly dying town of Defiance, Jace Gage never expected to fall for a violence-hating, violet-eyed tomboy, Leah Morgan.
Yep!! Love that cover too and I can hardly wait for this one to come out!!
I will have to say I loved Rachel and the Hired Gun so I am looking forward to this one!
Thanks for posting this, Sybil! And a big howdy to Quilt Lady and Kristie!
I begged my editor for another clothed, guy-only cover, and got a masterpiece!
Just one correction to your post, Sybil. The series doesn’t end with LEAH AND THE AVENGER (where the sheriff gets what he’s got coming)….There’s AGNES AND THE TALL STRANGER (a broken friend of Jace’s finds a home), LOGAN AND THE OUTLAW (Sager’s brother Logan is being hunted by a tempting outlaw!), and DULCIE AND BANDIT (Dulcie from AUDREY AND MAVERICK has to face her demons when she’s kidnapped by a bandit). All the Men of Defiance return in Dulcie’s story as they hunt her kidnapper.
They aren’t written or sold yet, but I’ve got the stories planned and they’re just burning to be told!
I guess this means I should really unearth Rachel And The Hired Gun out of my TBR. Sigh. I am not a well woman.
And is it my imagination or is Zebra getting better with their covers? So is Dorchester Leisure for that matter. Finally! Halfway decent covers on some westerns! Weeeeeeeeeee 🙂
