Besides being the resident Harlequin Historical hos here at The Pond, Sybil and I are massive, colossal, hardcore western romance junkies. So when Sybil first blogged about Jo Goodman‘s upcoming book, Never Love A Lawman, back in January we both immediately thought, “Wow, that sounds like a western.” We didn’t really have much to go on at the time though. Well guess what duckies?
We Have A Western!!!!!!!!
Bask in the glory. Revel in the cowboy goodness. And someone scrape me off the ceiling. I know Sybil will be overjoyed….just as soon as she overcomes her Internet connectivity issues from Hell.
“Rachel Bailey may seem like just a beautiful newcomer to most of Reidsville, Colorado, but Sheriff Wyatt Cooper knows she’s much more. Through a twist of fate, Rachel is the inheritor of a very valuable commodity: control of the railway that keeps the isolated mining town connected to the world. That is, she will be, if she agrees to the surprising stipulation in her benefactor’s will-that she marry Wyatt.
Rachel has no choice: refusing the marriage could put all of Reidsville in the hands of an outsider, and not just any outsider but the cruel tyrant she has come here to escape. Yet living with Wyatt will be her greatest challenge. For he has a tempting way about him that makes Rachel forget theirs is a marriage in name only- until her frightening past shows up to remind them exactly how much they have at stake…”
Oh. My. God.
Could my life get any better?
Laydown date is September 1 kiddies. Seriously. Start counting down the days now.
Just 2 days ago I had this conversation with a friend on AIM:
ME (4:47:26 PM): you know what I’m kind of in the mood for?
her (4:47:37 PM): whut
ME (4:47:56 PM): one of those american historical books, where they’re conquering the old west
ME(4:48:19 PM): and Indians raid their land, and the wimmin folk stay home and bake and shit
ME (4:48:30 PM): except a good one – and not racist
ME (4:48:45 PM): sort of Lavyrle Spencer-y
her (4:48:55 PM): hmmm I know what u mean
ME (4:49:59 PM): they’re a hard sell nowadays, or laden with inspirational BS that skews the story from romance into Other Stuff
I went on to muse if I even have my old LaVyrle Spencers anymore, and we talked books a bit longer. But seriously. Holy poop. I’m kind of excited now. I don’t even like historicals.
You BET I have something to say!!!!
Can you hear my screams of joy from where you are? Now that it’s confirmed I am ECSTATIC!!
Now how am I going to wait until September. And can I add how much I admire Jo Goodman for writing a western at this point in her career when she is FINALLY starting to get the recognition I think she deserved YEARS ago.
Venus: I kept hoping the inspirational western boom would translate to a western secular romance boom…..but it’s never quite happened. There are still very good westerns being published, readers just have to look a little harder for them these days.
Kristie: I know, isn’t this like the coolest news ever?! Of course it also helps that Goodman publishes with Zebra, an imprint that is still open to publishing western romances. If she published with….oh for example Avon…..I don’t think this book would be happening.
Yeah, I went there.
This is awesome news! I usually use the library but I’m totally going to the bookstore to purchase this one. I haven’t read a western in years!
So that was the noise I heard…
😉
Cool beans, western loving duckies!
Woo hoo! I totally love Westerns these days, and I love Jo Goodman every days.
Already noted on my TBB. That’s all kinds of awesome.

Thank you for the news! This is awesome. I can’t wait until Sept.
Is anyone else having trouble accessing Jo Goodman’s website? All I get is a blank page with an email link at the top.
Dana: Hmmmm, I’m not having a problem accessing it. Are you trying this URL?
http://www.jogoodman.com/
If it’s still not working – maybe you should try dumping your browser’s history/cookies/cache files?
Thanks Wendy! It’s working now. It just took a couple minutes to load.
