Book CoverSammy’s review of Knight’s Redemption (Knight’s Of Hell Series, Book 1) by Sherilee Gray
Paranormal Romance published by Sherilee Gray 29 Oct 18

Sherilee Gray is a new-to-me author. Boy, am I glad I downloaded this book a few months ago. I think if you’re a fan of J.R. Ward or Sherrilyn Kenyon, you would like these books. The Knights are a tight-knit group of warriors (half angel/half demon) protecting humans against the influx of demons. I think with more of a world buildup, I would also compare the books to Nalini Singh. Meaning that the brotherhood of warriors fighting for the greater good, fated mate trope, hot sex, messed-up heroes, strong heroines, all with a heavy dose of how the hell are they going to overcome these obstacles make for a great book with potential for being an even greater series. I absolutely love paranormal romances and new-to-me authors rocking the sub-genre.

The book starts off in the past. Lazarus is going to dispatch a demon and takes one of his Knight’s (Tobias) mate Scarlet to talk down a demon with no bloodshed. Things don’t work out so smoothly and Scarlet is killed in the process. Unfortunately for Tobias, he feels her death. He blames Lazarus and he goes rogue. Lazarus is living with the guilt and sorrow. Scarlet was like a daughter to him and, of course, he loves his brother-in-arms. It’s because of this guilt he acts like a moron. Usually a moron hero would make me throw my Kindle into the fire and walk away. Sherilee Gray kept me glued to the pages. Kudos to her for making me a believer.

Eve Taylor owns a book shop and has a really shitty boyfriend she just broke up with. Unfortunately, he doesn’t take no for an answer. Fortunately for Eve, she started to hear people’s voices inside her head. When the ex shows up to her house beating down her door, she knows exactly what he’s thinking. He hates her, thinks she can lose a few pounds, but wants to have rough sex with her despite that he can’t stand her. The reason he’s having these kind of feelings is because he’s a dick, but also because it’s her demon side she has no idea she has, repelling humans. Lazarus is out on the hunt when he is hit hard by his mate calling for him. It’s because Eve is in danger that it sets off the mating. Lazarus HAS to answer the call, biologically and also because the demons roaming the earth can feel her powers. Eve has no way of knowing what she is and she also has no idea how to mask her powers. Lazarus shows up and dispatches the ex and sends Eve to sleep until he can get his bearings. He has no time for mates, nor does he want one.

Lazarus arrives at Eve’s bookstore just in time. While he is there to explain to Eve what’s going on and also to whisk her away to their compound to train her and keep her safe, a demon is in the store waiting to pounce on her. Needless to say, Eve is horrified and very scared. Lazarus kills the demon, and he’s also trying not to freak her out, but he needs to get her out of there before more demons show up. He has the added risk because of her talents. The underworld could really use Eve, and not only can she read minds, but she’s also a key to opening the doors to hell. Right now demons can only get through on a solstice. With Eve, it’s cart blanche. Laz brings her back to his compound with his other Knights, and, of course, they are both feeling the pull of their mating bond and their chemistry is a solid four-alarm fire. Lazarus does not want to go down that road. He’s a big moron through most of the book. You know, the know-it-all guy? Yes, him. But I loved Eve so much, I kept going.

Eve is having a strange effect on the other Knights in the compound, and Lazarus takes her to a safe house where you get to meet more of the people that make up this world. Very intriguing stuff. While they are hiding out, things are also getting harder for Lazarus to stay away from Eve. They finally give in to their baser needs and the sparks really fly. With all the hot and cold Lazarus has been throwing around, it’s starting to really get to Eve. She’s made up her mind that whatever they have for the moment will be enough, and it’s at this point you want to light his ass on fire. But because of Eve’s strength and conviction, I kept going. Things build up to her being abducted by Tobias – he’s out for revenge and he’s doing the eye for an eye. Everything comes to an amazing conclusion. Lazarus pulls his head out of his ass, Eve finds out what her origins are, but, most of all, is the very satisfying HEA at the end of this intriguing series. When I was done, I immediately downloaded Book 2. I’ll be writing up my review for that one soon.

Yes, I found a new favorite series to devour. I’ll be waiting not too patiently for the next installment!
