And finally we come to the last book, the reason I got into this series. Just in case anyone doesn’t know, it was the shallow in me who thought the cover model was A-OK. Once I started reading the series, I wanted to keep reading until I got to this one.
We have seen Eric, the hero in the previous books, and to say he’s a good and caring kind of guy is simply a total lie. He’s a total man-whore who will go after anything female that moves, it seems. Nell, his partner in the restaurant/bar they own, is fit to be tied with him. He’s gone after waitresses in the past, and, when it does as it always does – since he is the definition of a Peter Pan character – she’s left with the fallout. He often flakes out on work, doesn’t show up or shows up late He’s just all-round undependable. It’s easy to dislike him, but there is still a twinkle of something likable about him.
At the start of this book, Nell reads him the riot act and tells him pretty much to grow the hell up, and he’s finally ready to at least give it an attempt. But things get complicated when he meets Jean, a good friend of Nell’s and is attracted to her. But there are complications. You see, Jean is pregnant and has come to town to make a life for herself and her unborn child. On top of that, Nell strongly warns Eric off Jean, because she knows his dog ways and doesn’t want to see her friend taken in by him.
So it really is time for Eric to grow up and become more responsible. He becomes good friends with Jean, and, while wanting her like crazy, respects the boundaries he’s been given.
And on Jean’s side, Eric is gorgeous, helpful, good to her. And she’s feeling horny, what with her hormones and everything. So she’s not making it easy for Eric to stay on the straight and narrow.
As with the others in the series, I enjoyed this book. It’s nice to see Eric change his ways and become a good and decent kind of guy. It’s also fun to see how the mighty fall as he falls deeper and deeper in love. He’s totally flummoxed how to handle things and is confused with some of these new feelings he’s having.
I can see why some readers might have issues with this book. Eric really is a player of the highest degree and he might be too much for some. He was for me at the beginning, but then as I saw him start to mature, he began to grow on me.
I’m glad I read this series, including this book. They’ve given me many a smile.

There seems to be a bond between them now, but is it enough? And can Eric give up his manwhore ways to be the man Jean needs?
