Veena’s review of Demon’s Desire (Hearts of the Fallen, Book 2) by Kendra Leigh Castle
Paranormal Romance published by Entangled Covet 26 Aug 13
I personally am a sucker for dark, brooding heroes with a painful past who succeed against all odds, given the love of a caring woman who sees through the mask to the marshmallow inside. Add to that a fallen angel bound to a vampire off to battle Lucifer and his minions. With that combination, I had to read this book.
Drusilla is a royal vampire, sister to the King and the chief administrator of their kingdom. She has lived a very long time, and other than one relationship in her past and that too a failed one, the only other relationship she desires is with a fallen angel who has trouble written all over him.
Meresin is the most damned of the fallen, his affinity for storms and lightning bound to his essence to make him a weapon of mass destruction. However, he is finding it harder to control all the power inside him, and, unless he can get the right kind of help fast, he’s going to disintegrate and cause a lot of damage in the process.
They both save each other lives, she by stepping in front of a sword that can kill him and he, in turn, giving her his blood to heal and cure her. The blood exchange causes them to be mated and now their lives are tied together, and his quest, where he fully expects to lose his life, becomes a lot more meaningful.
Their journey battling demons and themselves to a final confrontation with dark forces cause them to introspect and find themselves. A dark plot line but interesting. The author does a great job with her vision of purgatory and various demons that live and thrive and prey on unsuspecting souls that are not good enough to get to heaven right away or bad enough to go straight to hell.
I was a bit lost in the beginning, since, as usual, I jumped into a series and didn’t start at the top. It doesn’t take long to figure out and go with the plot, and, clearly, if you really want to know what happened before, you can read the earlier book.
