Tell me what to expect from Shomi in three words…
Genre meatloaf awesomeness.
(Apologies to any vegetarians who were really grossed out by that. Just think of it as the best chopped salad you ever ate.)
What attracted you to the line?
Anytime someone says, “The world may not be ready for this…” I gotta raise my hand. Okay, seriously, now. WIRED takes the action and the darker, emotional romance from my futuristic Crimson City series and combines it with the snappy banter and strong female friendships from my earlier light comedies. Publishers Weekly referred to WIRED as a contemporary romance, science fiction, cyberpunk mashup. Gotta love that description. It’s like the two sides of Liz Maverick combined into one, the perfect project for me.
Is your story a Romance? Where are you on the ever popular HEA debate?
I love HEAs. I can only deal without HEAs if I know there’s another book in the series coming. And that’s basically what I feel about writing them as well.
Sometimes the current book just doesn’t support an HEA for all of the character pairs…and sometimes it’s also more fun to draw out a satisfying relationship arc. That was the case in the ensemble cast of the Crimson City series with supporting players Jill and Marius. Whether or not there are ever more official Crimson books, I’ll write their HEAs. I have to! LOL.
What is a Kick Ass Heroine? Who is your favorite?
Hmm. The perfect kick-ass heroine is one whom you could imagine actually being. She’s got the attitude (with, of course, the right dose of real-world angst), she’s got the skills… and she’s gotta have the clothes. Heh.
What’s up next for you? And why will I want it NOW!
I’ve got two major projects on my plate. I’ve just signed a deal with manga publisher TOKYOPOP to work on their flagship series, Princess Ai. That’s going to be a whole new world for me! I’m also working on a sequel to WIRED featuring the old posse plus some really fab new characters.
Now it is your turn. Got a question for Liz about Shomi? About her next project? Wanna know why she never updates her blog, ask about the green parrot or what’s up with her and Vanilla Ice? This is the place to do it.
Of course I can’t promise she will answer everything but you are welcome to try ;). She will be checking in here over the next three days. Have fun!
Cool about Princess Ai. I’ve read the first one of that series.
Do you know if any of the Shomi books will be out as ebooks? I’d think a series like this would definitely appeal to those of us who like our tech toys.
Anyways, I definitely want to read this book! And the others that are coming out.
Oh, goody, I’m not the only one! If these are only in print it will take me a while to get them. I’m in Kuwait and they don’t sell romances here as far as I’ve seen. Amazon and Fictionwise have become my two best friends. For some reason, though, Amazon won’t ship a lot of books to me, here. It’s hit and miss.
There are only the three titles listed anywhere, that I can find. Are there more already planned or is this the market test?
Alecia, Dorchester has bought four more titles so far for 2008 and plans to buy two additional titles for the year. Colby Hodge, Kay Austin, Michelle Rowen (writing under a pen name), and Michele Lang are all upcoming Shomi authors. I’ll see if they can stop by today and tell us more about their books.
So there’s lots more Shomi to be seen! 🙂

You can check out the cover of TWIST by Colby Hodge here. http://aliendjinnromances.blogspot.com/2007/06/twist.html
Oh, Twist has a really cool cover.
I can’t believe how cool these covers are fror this line. Twist is another great one. Thanks for the link Eve.
Hey guys.
Yeah, sadly, no epub for now. Sometimes they do audioCDs but there are no plans for that either. (Not that it would help as far as shipping to Kuwait!)
🙂

Hi Liz,
What if anything inspired Wired?
Ack, no ebooks? Come ON, Dorchester. That’s just cruel. Especially with a line of books like this.
What inspired Wired? I wish I had a really obvious answer! I normally start with just a concept in my head. In this case, the manipulation of wires of fate. And then I think about the characters. I had a piece from several years ago with two characters (who became Roxy and Mason) who had the same sort of chemistry as the leads in Moonlighting. I always wanted to write a story about them and never had the right project.
Somehow the whole thing gelled and the story just took off while I was writing it. 🙂 Liz
Hey guys! I’m holed up in my writer’s cave, working on my new book like mad, and decided to give myself a little break and come over to say hi.
The concept for this line riveted me when I first heard about it – fresh, edgy. And then I read the excerpts for the first three Shomi books and I was hooked!
My Shomi book is called NETHERWOOD — it’s a futuristic retelling of the Robin Hood legends. Talia Fortune, intergalactic sheriff, hunts and falls for a cyber outlaw in an offworld, sentient Sherwood. It’s set for release in March 2008.
I’m going to give away a copy of Liz Maverick’s WIRED on my Yahoo contest only loop, so check it out if you like…my (soon to be revamped) website is http://www.michelelang.com
